This is a bigger and further island, but Mamutik is better for snorkeling.

Nice and clean beach, just 20 minutes from Kota Kinabalu. Snorkeling is alright with clean water and some fishes, not much corals though. Plenty of tiny jellyfish 😓

Plenty of Chinese and Korean tourists. Pack your lunch and drinks (maybe include tea as well) before going to the islands.

RM 30+ per person to go to two islands (different operators offer different packages). Snorkeling gear and life jacket included. Plenty of food stalls at the jetty as well.

A basic farmstay hostel on top of a small hill in Tenom. The view is pretty good, and the food served is nice with fruits.

Trusmadi is famous for its pitcher plants of unique shape, and you get a nice view of Mt Kinabalu.

We started hiking up from our base camp around 1am and it took 4 hours to reach the peak. The night sky is clear with plenty of sparkling stars. It gets pretty cold at the peak even though there is not much wind. We are lucky to see the sun rise with clear sky. There is a tower at the peak to give you 360 unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains.

Trusmadi is quite a journey from Kota Kinabalu. It took 2 hours to Keningau, then another 2 hours by 4 wheel to reach the base camp. There are three routes, we took the Mastan Trail (Apin-Apin Keningau).

Pretty popular breakfast place. The dried noodle and bun is pretty good.

First day of the trip, staying at a budget hotel in Keningau.

Hotel is a bit old, but still decent. Plenty of shops nearby within 5-15 minutes walk.
