Next, curry gravy. Their staff will bring the curry container and you will be spoiled with choices, as they have chicken curry, fish curry, crab curry and salted fish curry. Our favorite, will be fish and crab curry. But why limit ourselves, the best we would say, little scoop of everything to made it a curry combo (haha), Yummy !!!
We enjoyed the BLR here for its good offering of veggies and curries. We recommend the fried fish, mutton varuval and ikan bilis sambal.
The Chicken Varuval was really good. I specifically requested for chicken breast because I’d rather forego the bones and they delivered. The ‘Small’ option came with 4 meaty, juicy, flavorful chicken meat. It was an awesome addition to the banana leaf rice. The fried fish too, was tender and flavorful. Overall, a good experience. I’d be back for more. Burp!
Their specialities are the Salted Fish and Crab Curries that is packed with spices and extremely flavourful. Definitely, a must-visit when you're in Petaling Jaya!
If the Banana Leaf Rice plus Sambal Ikan Bilis was RM12, then the four dishes would be about RM6 each. Reasonable to me.
Man, the fried tenggiri fish is da bomb. Do give it a try if you haven’t already. The price of the fish varies according to the size of the fish, so if you want a bigger piece of fish, do head on over to the frying pan and choose the fish you’d want them to fry for you. This seriously is delicious. If I was not watching my calories, I would order another one. The chicken varuval was equally as yummy. Usually, you would get quite a lot of bones accompanying the meat, as in the bits and pieces that accompanies the dish on a plate, sometimes you would get meat and some times bones. The bones kindda makes up a whole piece, with no meat on it. Here though, every piece has meat on it. Yay!
Verdict In conclusion, Acha Curry House is a decent place to get your banana leaf rice fix. Prices are reasonable and the staffs were friendly and sincere. Although the curries was a disappointment, It left us feeling clean instead of bloated and yet we still felt satisfied with our meal.
Overall, I would rate this as one of the best banana leaf rice we've had this year. The basic components of the banana leaf rice impressed and all the sides such as mutton, fish and bittergourd were well executed.
Ambiance: 5/10 Price: 6.5/10 Food: 6.5/10 (pork free) Verdict: Try the mutton varuval and fried ikan tenggiri here. And if you’re a gravy nut like myself, you’ll love it here.
While most banana leaf restaurants serve chicken curry, fish curry and dhal for the gravy, Acha stands out for having salted fish curry, onion curry and crab curry too. That’s the first surprise.
