YURI / Matcha 6th Avenue Cheesecake! Priced at RM21, this is exclusively made available at The Tokyo Restaurant, Isetan The Japan Store, Lot 10. We personally prefer this to the original now as it has the right balance of sweetness together with the matcha. So velvety smooth and tasty!

When the restaurant first opened, everyone was raving about it and we thought "how good can a cheesecake be". Once we had a taste of it, we were hooked! Priced at RM20, you will get a slice of lusciously rich and creamy cheesecake with whipped cream. This decadent cheesecake is made with Danish cream cheese and is baked in a special humidity controlled oven. So delicious! For us, this is the best cheesecake we've tasted in KL!

Inspired by the Chong Qing-Grilled Fish, Fatt Kee Roast Fish has recently gained a lot of attention from netizens due to its gigantic serving with loads of Seafood swimming in the huge pot. The concept is not new- Deep Fried Fish with Seafood (like Prawns, Squid, Flower Clams) and vegetables soaked in a spicy-savory Seafood broth; served in the way similar to Hot Pot/ Steamboat. The spiciness varies and can be tuned accordingly but the heat-intolerant should be extra careful on selecting the spiciness as it can be lip-burning hot. It can be then enjoyed just like an ordinary Hot Pot, with extra condiments like Udon, Vegetables and Seafood to be added. Do note that there are two branches and both locations are near to each other; one is air-conditioned while another one is al-fresco setting. The flavors were fun and the combination was exciting, a place worth visiting.

The other main was Confit of Soon Hock. I like this one better. The fish was cooked decently and flakes off well. I thought the portion was a little too small to be a main but maybe that’s an internal food cost calculation thing. I would go for this over the beef. The addition of potato balls (?) was a bit curious though. I did not think it added to the dish and the texture doesn’t go very well since both are soft.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. Satisfied with the meals here. So far they seems to serve the best beef noodles in KL. Portion were good. I tried both version of soup and dry beef noodles and found that dry version taste better. Also their dry version with peanuts which makes the noodles taste better. The meat is soft. The tendon is good and normal beef noodles bowl came with beef balls & tripes. I order extra honeycomb which is very tender and taste good in beef broth. You also have option to add crispy fish skin for tastier option)

The chicken patty that accompanied the burger was not fried but grilled. It was nicely flavored, with a spread of green secret sauce, it made for a delicious burger. Oh, and the caramelized onions made it awesome. There was also a coat of cheese and pickled vegetables cubes. All these lead to a combination of flavors that somehow worked really well together. The scallops arrived plump and piping hot, the tender white flesh encased in a thin, crisp breaded shell. The ‘skin’ peeled off rather easily so the scallop kept popping out – would have been great if I could have gotten the batter and scallop together in one bite for a nice blend of texture. They were served with a side of Japanese mayo and the subtle sweetness went great with rice. Could have easily polished off half a dozen but sadly you only get three lol.

Classic tonkatsu pork loin is the most perfect. Slight fatty yet you get the nice fragrant from pork oil and the the batter that they use makes it crips inside out, yet the meat is soft and juicy. Dip with their tonkatsu sauce is a perfect marriage.

Overall, it is a great place for a tonkatsu but with a price of almost RM50 for a meal is definitely not a meal that you can afford daily. I believe not many patrons able to refill as many rice as they can. Asians are not big eaters anyway.

Another thing I liked was the powder flour that usually comes with this specific dessert, there was little here. The Battle For Peace-Tachio, 18 ringgit. This was delicious. A perfect blend of sponge, mousse and couli. Do not let the chocolate exterior fool you into thinking this would be a chocolate sweet delight. Nope. It is more of a delicious mix of bitter sweet delight. The chocolate had a bitterness to it that complemented the chocolate mouse and pistachio filling. The raspberry couli provided a sour ‘kick’ that to the sweet and bitterness of this dessert. It is different but decadent and delicious. Loved it.

整体来说我觉得这里的牛肉实在太棒,虽然价位有点高不过我肯定日后想吃牛扒的话一定会想到这里,那些连锁西餐厅卖的牛扒也不便宜不过味道跟口感和这里比是输了太多条街了!

If you're craving juicy yet good quality steaks, then this no-frills place for meat, cooked the Japanese way with simply just salt and black pepper, is definitely worth a visit. Although I won't go as far as to say that the steaks here are cheap since some of the wagyu beef can go as high as RM200, you can still find some very reasonably-priced and affordable Australian beef cuts for around RM25. So, go with what you think is within your budget. Besides a meat fest, there are plenty more food options here (like sushi, sashimi, tempura and bento) though I'll be more tempted by the lust of gorgeous meat more than anything else if I'm here again!

Isetan The Japan Store may appear like an expensive and posh shopping mall, but the Japanese food kiosks at the LG floor’s The Market are surprisingly affordable. If you are hankering for a juicy steak cooked Japanese way, you should definitely check out Tamaruya Meat Master.

David Chen is one person who knows all about chicken and chicken rice. After all, he and his family have been in the chicken rice business for many years and have recently opened MR & MRS CHICKEN in Pudu to extend the tradition. The family’s passion has also resulted in having their own poultry farm in Rawang. Concerned with providing the best quality chicken to his customers, David ensures that they are bred for at least 120 days in a free-range environment and fed with premium grains mixed with passionfruit enzyme and seaweed. He also emphasizes that his chickens are not injected with growth hormones or antibiotics. Furthermore, with passionfruit trees grown around the farm, quite often the chickens get to peck on those fruits as well – so how much more healthier can they get?

The whole lunch cost RM20.50, pretty standard since May ordered Goose rice which already cost RM9 per plate. Despite the salty sauce for that day, I still find that it’s a pretty decent place to have Chicken rice in Pudu area. There’s a few more places around that serve about the same thing, but somehow as I said, I always ended up here. Hmm, maybe because both the boss and the lady boss is friendly? Hmm…maybe.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. Food quality and taste is quite good and food preparation are done by two Japanese chefs. I like all the meal served. Salad were fresh with sesame dressing. I enjoy more of their grilled chicken dish compared to their grilled pork dish. The grilled chicken has more seasoning, softer, crispy skin and tender meat. The grilled avocado with melted cheese is awesome. Japanese omelette with chunks of pork belly is tasty as well. As for okonomiyaki is a bit lacking of ingredients as it only contains cabbage and batter. Dessert comes with 3 choices of vanilla, green tea and yuzu. The best choice would be yuzu as the taste is refreshing)

Mixed Okonomiyaki that contains Pork, Squid and Prawns – RM32 It was battered thick and filled with ingredients. Also topped with generous amount of mayonnaise and sweet sauce. I would say the portion is just-so, but I really enjoyed it tastewise

My Personal Opinion The teppanyaki didn't impress as much as I thought it would. Not having a say in the meat doneness, I can just as easily go to Tamaruya Meat Master (also at Lot 10) and have my fill of beef done exactly to my liking....with bigger portions and cheaper prices too (and what I pay goes directly into the amount of meat and not get 'wasted' on side dishes that I could do without (since I ended up liking only two out of the four courses). As for the okonomiyaki, it too didn't turn out to be the tasty treat that I was expecting. Hmmm, I'm not sure if I'll be back. I mean I know I'll be back to J's Gate Dining, I'm just not sure if I'll return to this particular restaurant. If I do return (and that's a big maybe), it'll be for the teppanyaki, not the okonomiyaki! ;)
