I opted for the giant garoupa, crowned with squid ink tuile in a light green broth of nasturtium, parsley chlorophyll and bonito. The deep-sea fish is beautifully cooked and shine on the plate with opaque flesh and natural flavors, while its skin gave a crispy crunch. The fish is served together with truffle mousse, and a side of beautiful looking coral made of pickled radish and salmon roe. The combination of all the ingredients had the taste buds experiencing soft, warm flavors with lingering finishes.
The dining experience consist of 5-course ultimate luxury dining and bold wine pairing. Each session will only accommodate a single table of only sixteen seats. Diners have the option to choose between the 5-course degustation menu without alcohol pairing which is priced at RM799+ or menu with alcohol pairing priced at RM999+ per person. It is highly recommended to opt for the latter as the alcohol pairing will greatly enhance the overall dining experience.
For those looking to relish the finer side of life, the Enfin by James Won is the restaurant to be pampered in. Located on Level 2 of Menara Hap Seng in Kuala Lumpur, expect to find a menu with elegantly plated French cuisine featuring quality artisan products (Asian ingredients) combined with the freshness of locally grown produce from their organic farm in Cameron Highlands.
I get it, credit where it is due, I admire his years of grit to attain his dream – his own fine dining French restaurant that would elevate the Malaysian dining experience to international standards. While lunch had left me in doubt, dinner, as I’ve correctly predicted, had showcased his capabilities better. Suffice to say, Chef James Won is certainly one of the few chefs in KL to watch out for. The 4-Course Degustation Dinner Menu is priced at RM388 per person and the 5-Course at RM438, excluding beverage and taxes. À la carte prices range from RM108 – RM198. There is an optional cocktail, wine, Champagne, and fine cognac pairing for an additional RM235. The new menu is available now – August 2017.
In conclusion I’ve had stronger expectations from the dishes we tried. It was definitely a decent meal, but Enfin by James Won is occupying the sort of space that bolsters expectations of a exceptional experience and that was missing from lunch. The 3-Course Degustation Lunch Menu is priced at RM128 per person, excluding beverage and taxes. À la carte prices range from RM18 – RM138. Lastly there is an optional glass of wine and Champagne pairing for an additional RM89.
