In my memory of Pek Kio hawker centre, the most famous stall had to be the prawn noodle (soup) manned by a no-nonsense auntie but in my rece...
Michelin Guide Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun. If you are in Pek Kio Market & Food Centre, you will notice the few stalls that will alway have a continuous stream of queue in front of their stall and Pin Wei Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun is just one of them.
Pin Wei is selling Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun that is freshly made on the spot in front of the customers' eyes.
Opened in 1951, Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodles has been serving their prawn noodles, which includes XXL prawns, to loyal customers for 70 years.
The noodles were a bit of a bore too, despite the greens and generous amount of crackling in there.
Wah Kee is one of the few that offers a decent rendition of dry prawn noodles with mee kia.
very good! 👍
i think i will try out babi pongteh and pork ribs first and later do a full fledged nonya dinner for family and friends.
it was a pretty good dinner, trying a new place and enjoying good family time together.
A food blog from a Singapore-based traveler
It's Neapolitan style pizza, so it's all about the dough, including the flour and fermentation.
Overall it was a nice lunch!
This was thicker egg noodles with bite yet tender enough, in a heavier spicy savoury soy sauce with no lard or sesame oil. The old school char siew was sweet and tender, while the wantons had thicker wanton skin holding small orbs of lightly seasoned minced pork. 10 to 15 minute queue at 10am. Not a bad wanton mee.
I enjoyed Soon Kee's wanton mee with their signature spicy savoury sambal sauce but with neither lard nor sesame seed oil, I am a little ambivalent about it.
What to eat in Pek Kio Market & Food Center. How about joining the queue to this old school taste Wanton Mee?
The dishes were traditional i.e. familial, nicely cooked using fresh, good quality ingredients.
If you love Teochew porridge, this is the place to go.
teochew fish cake was ok. dryer preparation than usual teochew fish cake.
I like the neighbourhood vibe of Owen Road and am happy that there is a bakery like The Bakehaus to inject a new lease of life to this precinct.
The Bakehaus is a place that bread lovers should make the trip for, and somewhere we would, and already returned to for more.
Genesis Vegan Restaurant is true attestation that vegan food can be delicious too. I was certainly impressed.
Love the relaxing ambience, friendly service, delicious food, and interesting range of craft beers. Do pay them a visit!
Overall, it was a fun tasting and I never thought I could have yakitori with hummus, or deep fried mantou with pesto.
This mum-and-pop cafe is a hidden gem in the heartlands, serving hearty meals at nett prices.
All in all, the spirit of Grit at Pek Kio lives on at Mash at Pek Kio, despite the long hiatus that they have had in between the closure of Grit at Pek Kio and the opening of Mash at Pek Kio.
We frankly wished the food was better, although the starters and the Mentaiko Cream Lobster Linguine were on point. Perhaps with a rethink of the menu, and kitchen operations, The Palmary may finally be praiseworthy.
Personally, I think they were trying to be adventurous in some dishes, while overly safe in the others. The Palmary should be able to afford to push some boundaries.
The carrot cake came in big chunks and was a bit hard. While you could taste the radish in the apparently handmade carrot cake, the wok hei and sweetness from the frying didn’t come through, and the egg appeared disparate from the carrot cake. This was really nothing special and not worth the calories.
The prawn and pork soup was really clear, sweet and tasty with a subtle prawn shell umami. The entire bowl was simple and old school, coming with small fresh peeled prawns, sliced pork and fishcakes.
Yeah, I liked this savory and chewy (and also sour and spicy after dipping in the hot sauce) grease bomb. I should try coming here for lunch next time.
Overall, there wasn’t much to shout about, and I found myself reaching out for the fries again instead.
If you’re looking for a compelling argument to give pig liver a try, there’s a hawker stall you need to visit—Jin Xi Lai (Mui Siong) Minced Meat Noodle.
Jin Xi Lai (Mui Siong) Minced Meat Noodle, situated in Yi He Eating House, boasts a BCM recipe that’s more than 50 years old!
Before and After - fascinating that we managed to cleaned everything up! Although the atmosphere and environment weren't as nice and comfortable as Sum Dim Sum, the dim sum here were actually pretty good. Would be back again; hopefully with my parents to try other signature dim sum at Dim Sum Haus Sg !
Dim Sum Haus in Jalan Besar. Check out their Seasonal Menu!
The Japanese dumpling, is a twist to the usual spicy wantons. Nice and of a good sized but I prefer the original sauce for that spicy kick.
Overall, it is a decent experience. If you can't get a seat at Swee Choon Tum Sum, this is always a decent option. It opens daily and till late for Friday and Saturday.
No doubt that their dim sum was freshly made with traditional recipes, there are still many competitors out there for their dim sum which can be better and worth the money spent. The time we spent in the queue did not make justice to our meal here. Perhaps, it's best to make a reservation before heading down there.
This was a satisfying birthday lunch and no doubt I would be back again! Three items deserved a re-order and they shall be the Wolfberry with Mushroom Siew Mai, the Signature Hot & Spicy Dumplings and the Signature Pandan Crispy Pork Bun!
I wouldn't say no to this comfort bowl of childhood favourite. They are opened daily 9.30am to 5pm but closed on Wednesday. I bet you will feel the same that the queue is worth waiting for!
Someone had warned me :“don’t bother to try the sungei road laksa as the portion is really small nowadays and standard isn’t as great as bef...
Hawker food with long history is hard to come by in Singapore. If you have not yet tried Sungei Road Laksa, it is worth the trip to Jalan Besar for a taste of how Laksa is prepared and served in the past. I left feeling very satisfied.
I'm not a shareholder if anyone was suspecting. I just like their food.
