Something closer to Chinese flavours is the Biang Biang Inspired Noodle (RM18) that reminds me of spicy pan mee. A simple yet extravagantly flavoured dish loaded with Szechuan chilli oil and toasted peanuts which is the epitome of soul food for me.

Soup is pack with flavour, you can taste the rice wine, heat from the ginger, slightly fragrant from soy sauce, sweetness from the clamp. It is indeed a satisyfying bowl for your lunch. It would taste even better if it is on rainy day as a sip of the soup could keep your tummy warm.

The Char Kuey Teow was really good. I can understand why many food bloggers rated Lai Foong to have one of the Top 10 Fried Kuey Teow in downtown KL. The noodles were well cooked and tasty, came accompanied with egg + cockles + fishcakes + Chinese sausages + lard + prawns + taugeh. Here, when you order LARGE, you’d get LARGE, Lots of noodles. I ate it all anyway since I was really hungry. Burp!

On a personal Burnt Cheese Cake (RM 16) is dessert that we found it to be special. We were told it was a housemade, and the definition burnt introduced a slight pleasant caramelized taste into the rich and dense cheese cake. A piece of wonder to enjoy. It is noted half of the cake was grabbed by customers when it is being put on selling tray.

Order South China Sea as it seems crowds favorite @ RM 36. Serve with 63 degree poached egg, housemade hash and salsa. Quite a huge chunk of salmon that is serve, looks great in the picture. It is under season, quite pale in flavour and overcook too. Mix of salsa is a bit confusing, filled with apple, capsicum and the fried hash that looks like being fried in a long serving oil that gives such colour and quite at the base plate. I try to finish my salmon, and I guess I gave up along the way. Turns out to be quite disappointing.

Crispy Chicken with Creme Sauce, 21 ringgit. This was similar to the creamy pesto sauce dish we’ve had previously. I remember liking that one and was looking for something similar, so I decided to give this dish a go. Pasta and sandwiches were not of interest to me today, so yea. This was delicious. The crispy boneless chicken bits and the creamy sauce complimented each other well. The chicken on its own, would have been pretty dry, however, add on the creamy sauce and you would get a burst of flavors and textures. The creme sauce itself came with spices and a lil milky sweetness, it had an overall tasty flavor to it. It resembled thick butter chicken sauce but totally different in flavor. Overall, a delicious dish. Loved it.

Cajun Butter Shrimp, 19 ringgit. The rice bowl was simply yummy! It tasted like a combination of tasty fried rice + sweet buttery sauce + 6, 7 medium sized prawns + egg + crunchy crumbs. Very nice. I truly enjoyed this dish. My friend and I, between the two of us and the first few spoons of this rice bowl – you’d here ‘omaaaaagod’, ‘ yummmmmm’, ‘this is gooood’ … yup, that sums up how much we enjoyed it. Since I decided to pass on the fine print, consider me surprised. I was especially so to find the thick, sweet butter sauce in the rice and at the bottom of the bowl and they provided me with plenty, enough for me to slurp it up. When you mix it all up, for me at least – it tasted like yummy fried rice with sweet, gooey butter sauce gravy and chewy prawn + egg. I’d certainly go for this dish again.

A hearty meal that is a staple for most local Chinese families, the Hokkien mee RM9.50 is presented on a banana leaf-lined plate and is ultra-popular largely because of oodles of prawns, pork, squid and generous helpings of lard fritters. The mee is thoroughly enjoyable on its own but for locals, the canister of sambal belacan on each table is one of Restoran Kim Lian Kee’s primary attractions (our personal favourite as well)! 😉

The Hokkien Mee was drier than usual (their signature style), pleasantly aromatic with a subtle saltiness. It derived most of the flavor from the pork meat, offal and prawns that went into frying the noodle as well. We tried two versions, one offal and the other without, and the one with offal was noticeably tastier. Best Haus’ Pork Ribs, 36.80 ringgit. The pork ribs was da bomb! Not much effort was needed to separate the meat from the bones because it literally falls of it with ease. It was sweet, succulent, tender, chewy all in one. It tasted awesome, real good that the plate was empty within minutes. I only wish that they gave me a bigger pieces because it was not nearly enough, lol. Moreeeee, I need moreeeeee! The salad on the side was refreshing. Plenty of green, tomatoes and a fruit – I cant remember what it is referred as but I do not come across many eateries that serves their greens with this particular fruit – it however works, it provided that ‘kick’, a lil sweet and a lil bitterness to it.

Reasons to visit The Attic Bar: Authentic pork-free Italian food presented by DOP Concept in tandem with speciality cocktails. The Negronis, the pesto and the tiramisu were particularly good. Go at sunset to catch great views of the city at twilight and watch the sun drop behind the roofscape of Chinatown.

Personally, we liked the traditional one more but both had a lovely, flaky crust. I'm sure it would taste even better if it's straight out of the oven. Worth trying if you are in the area!

While most people are still going gaga over half baked cheese tarts, we opted to have something more traditional – egg tarts. For that matter, Bunn Choon bakery at Petaling Street makes inarguably the best egg tarts in KL.

Nam Heong Chicken Rice - Chinatown KL Restaurant

The owners accepted the fact that their Chicken Rice has received more positive response than the Hainanese Coffee, Toast and Eggs! As time goes by, new dishes were added into the menu to the delights of the customers. Set Meal: BBQ Pork + Roast Chicken + Vegetables (Bean Sprouts), 14.90 ringgit. This was your usual chicken rice, or rather chicken + pork rice, lol. I guess for a dish that cost 14.90, whatever served on the plate should be more than enough, especially when it comes with vegetables and soup on the side but 4,5 thinly sliced pork meat and 4,5 pieces of roasted chicken did not do it for me. I barely even had the time to decide whether it was good or not before it all disappeared into my tummy. I guess that explains why every table had a big plate of meat on its own because the set simple does not offer enough. As for how it tasted, the chicken rice tasted okay. For me, nothing beats the chicken/pork rice at Meng Kee ( Meng Kee Char Siew @ Shah Alam – One of the Best Char Siew Rice I’ve Tasted. ) There is nothing much I can say to describe chicken rice, lol or how different it is from one and another because they all almost taste similar but yea, the ones at Meng Kee Shah Alam is the bomb. Since I am one of those who eats chicken rice once in a blue moon, when I do get do get down to eating it – I want something really good and for me, good is at Meng Kee, till I discover another restaurant that serves awesome chicken rice.

Pahit Restaurant

3 Jalan Sin Chew Kee Bukit Bintang 50150 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Pahit is Kuala Lumpur's only gin-focused bar. Its setting is pared down - a rustic and laid back 1920s shoplot; allowing it's house-infused, classic and contemporary gin cocktails to take centre stage.

Taste:9/10(Tasty. Refreshing drink of Laksamana which is mixture of ingredients used to make assam laksa. Lol... You can taste ginger flower, mint and lemon grass taste in this cocktail. I also tried their signature Starlight drink which is mixture of Bulldog dry gin, violet liqueur, lavender basil syrup, grapefruit juice and hibiscus soda. Both cocktail is unique and local creation).

Reasons to visit: The calamansi and assam boi infused gin is sensational, while fingers of Fords Gin and the West Winds are a great choice. Personally, the olive and rosemary savoury notes of the Gin Mare and the tea and floral tones of the Ki No Bi are spectacular choices. Gin tasting flights based on label and also time are awesome. Very cool setting.

Chicken Satay (a dozen/12 pieces), 26.90 ringgit. The satay was pretty good and it came with two options – beef and chicken, I ordered the latter. The satay was yummy mostly because of the peanut sauce. I like eating the chicken bits on its own before dunking it into the peanut sauce because I usually find it being glazed with a thin layer of sweet sticky flavorful gravy but that was not the case here. Here, the chicken on its own does not come with additional flavor, just plain ol roast chicken? but when you dunk it into the peanut sauce – then it becomes da bomb! A lil sweet, a lil crunchy, a lil chewy and plenty of flavor. Yummy!

Seniman Kakao Restaurant

The Ice Chocolate with Coconut Milk is apparently a crowd favorite, hence why I decided to give it a try. It was something different. With every sip you’d taste, the taste of chocolate will hit you first. then the taste of coconut and it ends with the taste of slight bitterness from the small bits of dark chocolate scattered around. If you are the kind of person who liked your chocolate drink thick, you most probably would not enjoy this drink as much as due to the use of coconut milk, it is just a tad lighter, waterier than the usual. However, if you fancy a chocolate drink with a twist, do consider this combination. It is different, refreshing and makes for a good drink to quench your thirst. It was not too sweet, it had just the right amount. I most probably would still stick to the regular chocolate with cows milk but if I fancy something a lil different – I’d go for this.
