The chef from 1 Michelin Star Buona Terra takes over the Mandarin Grill. I muse over why these culinary events are great for local gourmands and our food scene.
Mandarin Grill’s reopening successfully introduces modern twists on Italian classics. Cacio e pepe with sea urchin deserves praise, as does the beef rending cappelletti, which adds local flair to the restaurant’s repertoire.

The revisit to Concorde Hotel KL famous dim sum is rewarding. The quality of the food and the ambiance of the place remains the same after so many years. For the pricing of their dim sum, it is similar to some Chinese banquet restaurant price and on par or cheaper than some dim sum restaurants in other hotels in KL. In short, visiting Concorde Hotel KL famous dim sum will not disappoint you.
Chef Wong takes on a bold approach with the Steamed Soon Hock with Nyonya Sauce (RM30 per 100gm). The fish is smothered in a piquant and spicy Nyonya sauce that is redolent of spices and herbs. Although the sauce is robust and heavy in flavours, one can still taste the sweetness of the firm and tender flesh of the Soon Hock fish. The dish beckons for a bowl of steamed rice as the sauce is moreish and addictive.
Fruity Yee Sang (small): pistachio, pomelo, chia seed, wax apple (jambu air), dried cranberry, white dragon fruit, dried blueberry, jackfruit, grape, deep fried dough, mandarin orange, pomegranate, pumpkin seeds, snow pear, apple, peanut, and carrot. Tasty and refreshing! MYR 108 nett

Steamed Cod with Chinese Ham Served with Honey and Supreme Stock Paste The generous portion of the cod comes perfectly good to our tastebuds. The cod is perfectly steamed together with the Chinese Ham bringing you the aromatic flavours . The dish is just awesomely good where the fish remains its flaky texture but the flavours are enhanced by the Chinese Ham as well as Supreme Stock Paste.
One of the must try is their Smoked Lamb Ribs (RM 98.00 nett). One can enjoy the 360g of Lamb Ribs which is beautifully smoked with the hickory wood, and then seasoned with their signature spice blend and then glazed with their house-made barbecue sauce and grilled till perfection. The meat comes awesomely delicious and tender which makes it heavenly with no gammy smell in it. And what’s more is they are sides with the seasoned fries and fresh vegetables. Yummz !
食物美味不在话下,价格乍看之下感觉好像贵了些,但看到份量的时候就觉得还好了。
One Night in Bangkok Spicy Shrimp This dish was a favorite of mine. There were medium sized prawns coated in spicy sauce with a nice amount of sesame seeds and green onions sprinkled on it. You do not need to worry about the sauce being too hot – it wasn’t. It somewhat resembled the reddish orange sauce commonly used to coat Korean Fried Chicken?? The difference here is the flavor itself. First, the mild spicyness will hit you, immediately followed by short burst of sour tanginess. I think a drizzle of lemon zest was added too. It was delicious. If it wasn’t for the others being around, I’d most probably ‘hantam’ it all by myself but since that was not the case, ‘kena jaga imej’ right? Lol.
Reason to visit Tao Chinese Cuisine: delicious Chinese cuisine, attentive service, fresh produce, beautiful setting, must try the Peking duck.
Salted Egg Prawn (RM 88) The Salted egg prawn is perfectly an indulgence. The prawns are deep fried till perfection well coated with the salted egg which leaves you aromatic flavours.

Honey Butter Chicken (RM24.90) A highly addictive dish which I agree with crispy boneless fried chicken chucks with potato wedges and rice cakes, tossed with honey butter sauce and seasoning.
Started with this Rose Cheese Chiqueen, a cheesy chicken platter that’s going to become cheese lovers’ new favourite! Fried chicken tenders stacked over a bed of fondue cheese, topped with chunky potato wedges and cherry tomatoes, further heaped with mozzarella sauce.
