Grilled Spanish Octopus Tentacle with Spiked Concasse & Garlic (RM43.70) – take my advice, don’t ever share this dish, have one entire portion to yourself because that piece of octopus tentacle is just out of this world!
More appetizers followed and the Mentaiko Gratinade Baby Lobster (RM23.80++) is an absolute stunner. Mentaiko or fish roe has such a moreish flavour profile that it pairs well with seafood to bring out the oceanic flavours. The baby lobster is cooked beautifully while the gratin makes the lobster even more delectable.
Reasons to visit: meat, meat and more meat; value-for-money dishes; a bit of excitement with flambé done tableside; our favourite dish is the Meatology Ribs with a squeeze of lime on top and we’re pretty darn happy to have access to chef Yenni’s lushed up yee sang recipe year round too.
The flaming crabmeat soup was delicious, truly... with Xiamen Mushrooms. Flambed with brandy, I liked it already even before tasting it. Priced at RM29.80, I would actually label this as value for money soup. Now we learnt something interesting about the huge xiamen mushrooms. Apparently farmers of this crop have to be pure in heart, or the entire harvest will turn black and fail.
Meatology at TTDI will overwhelm you, the first time you are here- there’s not really much that can be done about that. The new menu is adventurous and the true culinary charm reveals itself when owner Chef Yenni Law pours her heart and soul onto every dish that comes out from the kitchen.
Yes, passion. And therein lies the secret of Meatology. Chef-owner Yenni Law is one helluva passionate chef. Author of two cookbooks and having revamped Meatology (which used to be “Boathouse”) recently, Yenni doesn’t stop. Just when I thought she has earned a well-deserved slowdown (don’t even talk about “resting”!), she told me she was revamping and creating new dishes for her menu!
There’s so much more at Meatology’s menu that warrants a visit with more people so one can share all the delicious dishes. I would go back for other dishes such as Jack & Chic, Pork & Roll, Pig’s Balls, Poison Pork, Claypot Wild Boar Curry with Corn Chips, Wagyu Skirt Steak, Beer Breast, Meatology Smoked Belly, Octopussy Risotto and more.
