By the way, Cheongsando has only four cabs and one bus that stops running pretty early (before 4pm). Also the bus runs only in one direction. A lot of the pensions on the island offer pick up services if you tell them when and where you want to be picked up. We managed pretty well with the bus. You can catch it at the harbor and hop on and off however many times you like.

The landscape is unlike anything else in Korea, and you feel like you’re in a completely foreign country. Even though Suncheon is the third largest city in Jeollanamdo province (after Gwangju and Yeosu), the city has a small town feel to it, not to mention super friendly people who smile and greet you for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Suncheon Bay’s close proximity to the city is possibly one of the reasons for all the smiles – I mean, wouldn’t you be happy if you lived close to somewhere so beautiful?

It was a windy day on a beautiful, winding boardwalk path; the rustling and flexible bend of the reeds inspired a wispy self-reflection, blowing my week’s worries away!

And we finally arrived at the “observatory” area but no photographers lining up? It wasn’t very visible with the morning fog but I was already quite disappointed that I didn’t get the autumn color view. We had to wait for the fog to disperse. I guess it will be the prettiest during Spring which is around the month of April. If I ever return to visit Gwangju, I’ll plan it in April to try my luck again.

These images only scratch the surface of the beauty that is Jeungdo. I was only there for three days and, as with any location, the more time you have, the better. If I were younger and single, I’d definitely prefer to explore the island on a bike or scooter. When you’re not out shooting photos or exploring, there’s a white sand beach there (우전비치) whose sand rivals tropical beaches. Overall, it was a short but sweet trip that left me wanting more.
