This Fish Head Noodle Shop in SS20 have good reviews from netizens; with prices range from rm$14 to rm$17 for 3 variants of either 松魚 Soong Fish, 生魚 Haruan Fish or 魚滑 Fish Paste.
Each bowl is around RM 15 (if not more). Felt it was quite a rip off as you don't get much fish with flesh. And I prefer my fish to be still crunchy. Or maybe tht's because I ordered the cheaper type that came with more bones. Certainly not coming back here.
Menu comes simply simple with a few choices of their signature soup and 2 different fish where they have haruan fish and soong fish. Then you can have your soup base which is sourish soup or the milky soup. I am a big fans of fish paste, so I grab the hearty bowl of fish paste thick mee hoon with the sourish base soup. The home made fish paste (RM 10) comes in non fry cook with the preserved vegetables, tomato, ginger, spring onions with 5 pcs of Fish paste with the clear version soup. The base is light sourish and the soup is indeed flavourful and good.
Overall Rating: 5/10 for the environment and prompt customer service. Food wise, I think the soup base was a huge disappointment coupled with the fact that the fish was full of bones. Compared with Win Soon Cafe, SS2 which I wrote a review on some time back, I would definitely prefer the latter. This is definitely not the best fishhead noodle in town as acclaimed by many. I will not revisit SS20 Fish Head Noodle anytime soon.
SS20 Fish Head Noodles is certainly a hidden gem with very decent fish head noodles. I have to say that they are pretty generous with the fish slices, fish paste and portion for the price that we are paying (RM 6 and above). Unlike KaSoh’s version with the oh so good smell of Chinese cooking wine and accompanying lards, this stall is the place for patrons who prefer something light and subtle.
