When the restaurant first opened, everyone was raving about it and we thought "how good can a cheesecake be". Once we had a taste of it, we were hooked! Priced at RM20, you will get a slice of lusciously rich and creamy cheesecake with whipped cream. The other main was Confit of Soon Hock. I like this one better. The fish was cooked decently and flakes off well. I thought the portion was a little too small to be a main but maybe that’s an internal food cost calculation thing. I would go for this over the beef. The addition of potato balls (?) was a bit curious though. I did not think it added to the dish and the texture doesn’t go very well since both are soft.

First to arrive was the Daging Rusuk, and the staff promptly portioned it out for us and served it on our plates. Great service! The beef ribs has first been braised, then charcoal grilled, imparting a delicious smokiness to the tender meat. The chicken patty that accompanied the burger was not fried but grilled. It was nicely flavored, with a spread of green secret sauce, it made for a delicious burger. Oh, and the caramelized onions made it awesome. There was also a coat of cheese and pickled vegetables cubes. All these lead to a combination of flavors that somehow worked really well together. It totally make sense why this is one of their popular burgers.

Crispy Chicken with Creme Sauce, 21 ringgit. This was similar to the creamy pesto sauce dish we’ve had previously. I remember liking that one and was looking for something similar, so I decided to give this dish a go. Pasta and sandwiches were not of interest to me today, so yea. This was delicious. The crispy boneless chicken bits and the creamy sauce complimented each other well. The chicken on its own, would have been pretty dry, however, add on the creamy sauce and you would get a burst of flavors and textures. The creme sauce itself came with spices and a lil milky sweetness, it had an overall tasty flavor to it. It resembled thick butter chicken sauce but totally different in flavor. Overall, a delicious dish. Loved it.

On a personal Burnt Cheese Cake (RM 16) is dessert that we found it to be special. Order South China Sea as it seems crowds favorite @ RM 36. Serve with 63 degree poached egg, housemade hash and salsa. Quite a huge chunk of salmon that is serve, looks great in the picture. It is under season, quite pale in flavour and overcook too. Mix of salsa is a bit confusing, filled with apple, capsicum and the fried hash that looks like being fried in a long serving oil that gives such colour and quite at the base plate. I try to finish my salmon, and I guess I gave up along the way. Turns out to be quite disappointing.

Verdict: The food we had was just mediocre but I know there are people who love their food but definitely not me. The long waiting time and the uncomfortable dining environment (outdoor seats) most probably the main factors that deter me for a revisit.

Cajun Butter Shrimp, 19 ringgit. The rice bowl was simply yummy! It tasted like a combination of tasty fried rice + sweet buttery sauce + 6, 7 medium sized prawns + egg + crunchy crumbs. Very nice. I truly enjoyed this dish. My friend and I, between the two of us and the first few spoons of this rice bowl – you’d here ‘omaaaaagod’, ‘ yummmmmm’, ‘this is gooood’ … yup, that sums up how much we enjoyed it. Since I decided to pass on the fine print, consider me surprised. I was especially so to find the thick, sweet butter sauce in the rice and at the bottom of the bowl and they provided me with plenty, enough for me to slurp it up. When you mix it all up, for me at least – it tasted like yummy fried rice with sweet, gooey butter sauce gravy and chewy prawn + egg. I’d certainly go for this dish again.

The scallops arrived plump and piping hot, the tender white flesh encased in a thin, crisp breaded shell. The ‘skin’ peeled off rather easily so the scallop kept popping out – would have been great if I could have gotten the batter and scallop together in one bite for a nice blend of texture. They were served with a side of Japanese mayo and the subtle sweetness went great with rice. Could have easily polished off half a dozen but sadly you only get three lol.

Classic tonkatsu pork loin is the most perfect. Slight fatty yet you get the nice fragrant from pork oil and the the batter that they use makes it crips inside out, yet the meat is soft and juicy. Dip with their tonkatsu sauce is a perfect marriage.

Overall, it is a great place for a tonkatsu but with a price of almost RM50 for a meal is definitely not a meal that you can afford daily. I believe not many patrons able to refill as many rice as they can. Asians are not big eaters anyway.

AS the seafood looks good, so we ordered Hokkaido Scallop and Parsley – pan seared Hokkaido Scallop , parsley puree, Salted Caramel Hazelnut @ RM 40. Enjoy the scallop on the high note, as it was cook to perfection. Slighlty glazed and golden brown on the top, fresh scallop meat and puree is smooth to work well with its caramel hazelnut that did not over power the scallop. Great combination.

This Pommery Lamb & Hummus sat there comfotably, its rack like fingers called out to me seductively. This time it's a blend of New Zealand lamb with the Middle Eastern hummus. This was our best dish of the evening, the lamb was nicely done with a good crusty layer leading to a soft juicy inside. We took small tasteful bites of it while enjoying the view.

One of the must-try pasta dishes at Greyhound Cafe is the Spaghetti with Dried Salty Fish (RM26). For me, this is pretty similar to an aglio olio, with the addition of holy basil leaves and chillies as well as the crispy salty fish (which is not to be mistaken for salted fish as this is quite lightly salted) which adds texture to the overall dish. I love the heat from the chillies and the fresh flavours from the herbs.

Verdict: I found the price range for the products is pretty reasonable and certainly a good place to stock up your grocery especially when you planning to have a home party. The Char Kuey Teow was really good. I can understand why many food bloggers rated Lai Foong to have one of the Top 10 Fried Kuey Teow in downtown KL. The noodles were well cooked and tasty, came accompanied with egg + cockles + fishcakes + Chinese sausages + lard + prawns + taugeh. Here, when you order LARGE, you’d get LARGE, Lots of noodles. I ate it all anyway since I was really hungry. Burp!

Both the dishes were yummy, especially when after the chilli paste was added. It was slimy, gooey, flavorful, a good dish. Nothing else to say. Yup. I personally liked the Hokkien Mee more than I did the Loh Shu Fan. Them fat, thick yellow hokkien noodles cooked in thick soy sauce – ooo yum! With squids and prawns – yes, I ordered their seafood option, the dish was awesome.

Taste:8/10(Good. The lunch set food overall is good but not outstanding. Food presentation were good. The fried fish is a bit dry in the sweet fish bun and the taste is mostly enhanced by mayonnaise. The steamed bun however were perfect as its soft and light. The Yuzukosho tamarind chicken main dish was slightly overcooked and caused the meat to be a bit harder. Taste wise, the chicken is good. I like the dessert of lychee, mango and panna cotta. The dessert mixture taste were well executed and refreshing).

This is my favourite dish - braised wagyu beef cheek rolls with century eggs and pickled vegetable in Szechuan sauce at MYR 48++ (MYR 55.95 nett). I ate 3 rolls and my birthday friend ate 2 rolls. I like the taste of the beef and century eggs but find the sauce to be a bit overpowering.
