Dijver 12, Bruges, Belgium

The Groeninge Museum offers a varied overview of the history of Belgian plastic arts. Although the Flemish Primitives are a high point, you will also marvel at top 18th and 19th-century neoclassical pieces, masterpieces from Flemish Expressionism and post-war modern art.

Bruges, Belgium was glittering jewel since medieval time and though its commercial activities has largely subsided, its glories can be seen from every corner of its old city, particularly in its rich museums. The most important museum in Bruges is Groeninge Museum, which boasts some very fine examples of Flemish Primitive paintings, such as those by Jan van Eyck, which present in Bruges was like that of Botticelli in Florence, Italy.

Today we are publishing two articles about the fantastic Groeningemuseum. In the gardens, which look a lot better during the summer you see fascinating trees, pieces of art and statues. We also added some general impressions of the more modern art of the museum. Our preferences go out to the Flemish Primitives and art up to the end of 18th century of which we are going to publish photos of our favourite paintings this evening.

We were heading back today from our Christmas vacation to Sölden, Austria (yeah yeah life is rough) and decided to stop by Neuschwanstein since it was on the way (again, life is rough). Neuschwanstein castle has a funny name, but you know it once you see it. It's quite possibly the most famous castle in all the world. Walt Disney modeled the Cinderella castle after Neuschwanstein and with good reason, it's very beautiful and the setting is both dramatic and magical. Even in the winter time it's just as pretty to visit, not only for the castle but also for the views overlooking the valley below and beyond.

As we inched closer to the Neuschwanstein Castle, I couldn't help but think it looked even more fairy tale'esque thanks to the autumnal hues Mother Nature had dressed it in. Rich yellow, copper and crimson leaves framed the world-famous castle on the craggy rocks, contrasting sharply with the lime green fields below it. In…

The Choco-Story Museum in Bruges is by no means an ordinary museum. This is an experience of chocolate unlike any other. Upon arrival I was delighted to see a rather large, plastic chocolate egg formation towering high in front of me.

One of the many pleasures of having family visiting, is playing tourist in your city for a few days. So last week, when my nephew came to Amsterdam, I went to the Eye Museum for the first time. After wandering around the building and having had coffee and madeleines on the terrace, we spontaneously decided to go see the exhibition that was going on: Solid light films and other works by British-born artist Anthony McCall.

Markt 7, Bruges, Belgium

The most important of Bruges’ towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city’s charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur’s chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

People usually visit Colosseum + Roman Forum/Palatine Hill together. Roman Forum/Palatine Hill is a vast area of Roman ruins (plenty of walking) with plenty to see even for a non-history buff. It's easily accessible within the city, taking the Metro stopping at Colosseo. We bought out ticket at the Palatine Hill entrance, as the Colosseum entrance is too crowded.
