This petite yet seductive corner fitted with the bar occupying almost 70 percent of the room is recently lively again and named Biru San now. This Japanese bar serves mostly Japanese alcohol and some small selection of classic cocktail choices. And with very limited space, you can slide up over to the bar or simply just be seated at the casual alfresco where you’ll be greeted by the most friendly and chatty service crew. Immaculately suited very properly and carefully suggesting our choice of drinks, it didn’t took us long to decide on what we want.

Looking through the one-page menu, I decided on the lobster roll at MYR42++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 48.72 nett) I like that I can detect chunks of lobster meat in the roll. The mayonnaise sauce tastes creamy and well seasoned with salt and pepper. As I usually don't eat mayonnaise, I guess I am not used to eating flavourful food because after this meal, I was very, very thirsty the whole day and drank many glasses of water to try to quench my thirst but this won't hold me back from trying lobster rolls at other places. I don't think we will be back here for our regular lunch unless it is for a celebration because the prices here are on the higher end as befitting this kind of place.

For the past couple of days, I have been having cravings for Don (short for donburi - a Japanese rice bowl dish). Hence I decided to drop by Five-HT, a Japanese Fusion restaurant, for dinner. One of the reasons why I enjoy fusion food so much is because the amalgamation of flavors and textures, never ceased to surprise me. Prawn & Kale Pesto Pasta, 39 ringgit. The Pesto Pasta was utterly delicious. I was half in love with it just by looking at it. There were 2 huge prawns – the large kind that you’d be able to cut into 5,6 small pieces each. Yup, those giant prawns. The pasta texture was thick with kale pesto dressing , yet oily from the olive oil perhaps? A good combination. There was almond bits for garnish, plenty of tomatoes, mushrooms and surprisingly couliflower. I havent come across many pastas served with couliflower but I liked, it was a good addition, added some crunch to an otherwise ‘soft and slimy’ dish. This cost me almost 40 ringgit but it was real good, so I guess it was worth it.

Look out for the stained light and embark on a mysterious journey as you walk up a flight of dimly lit stairs to the entrance of AD Bar. As you grasp for the entrance and stumble in our little hidden tavern, you will be engulfed in an era where time seems to stand still from the 5th – 15th Century, the era of medieval times, ageless, intrigue, cosy, romantic yet inviting speakeasy bar. As you blend in the ambiance of the place and settle on a comfortable corner, ease yourself and your day’s trial and tribulation will dissipate from your thoughts. Take a swig of one of the numerous choice of concoctions, we have all sorts of poison to select from. Speak to our bartender, and he’ll surprise you with your preference!

Reasons to visit: good value cocktails; an easy to read signature list; my personal favourites were the Dancing Ape, Dragon’s Breath and Fairy’s Tears; hubby’s top picks were the Genie Pop and the Yeti Cup.
