Aglio Olio (RM 19.80). Their Aglio Olio is also nicely done with al-dente spaghetti noodles, topped with mushrooms, tomatoes, and sprinkles of cheese. The flavour comes well from the olive oil and pepper, albeit oil was slightly excessive which might be neglectable by some.
Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling (Pitt Street) in Penang is one of the most celebrated cultural districts of Penang. It is also here in the heart of George Town where one would find the mushrooming trend of cafes. For one – the Bean Sprout Cafe located in a two-storey heritage building opposite the Kuan Yin Temple has grown into a popular place. The cafe catches the eye from the street with its black colored blinds with big white wordings.
Specializing in the classic brunch items- Big Breakfast, Toasts and Pancakes; The Bean Sprout Cafe is one of the latest members to join the clamoring cafe scene in Penang. It occupies one of the lots right opposite to the few century old Kuan Yin Temple along Masjid Kapitan Keling. Both exterior and interior are rustic, it certainly matches the heritage theme well. The contrast is obvious here- young and passionate in an old-fashioned space; east (building) meets west (food); the cafe operators seem to pay great attention to details here. The heat-intolerant might be glad to know that there's a huge blower erected (though not air-conditioned), the cafe is not stuffed and the ventilation works fine. We did not feel stuffy at all, on a sultry hot afternoon. Albeit the cafe has a small menu but sipping a cup of Joe and enjoying the Toast while looking at the bustling temple-praying scene can be one of the great ways to enjoy your off day.
The burnt cheesecake here was more like a New York baked cheesecake (more dense), nevertheless it was still yummy. We got the set which comes with coffee (cake and coffee for RM15.90). A nice place to chill with a cuppa.
Surprise, surprise .. Gala House used to be a one-shop-lot size Cafe but now expended their business into two-shop-lot, where one is for you to enjoy your meal in a more family like setting while the other is a modern bar for you to enjoy your drinks, i find this combination kinda awesome
The chef shared with us that another popular main is creamy chicken since Gala House inception. It gives a rich filling when coupling the fried chicken cutlet with the cream.
Here's the location.
For meat lovers, there is smoked duck stew and the lamb shoulder korma. These two dishes stewed with plenty of spices are served with cucumber raita, a cooling accompaniment prepared with charred Japanese cucumber, mint, and yogurt.
First among the mains that we sampled was the dish of Mussels with Ravioli. Prepared in a bright homemade tomato sauce with hint of white wine and seafood flavor, the dish which isn’t on the menu was simple but delicious.
