I ordered the tomato pasta from the children menu so the small portion is just right for me.
My friend wanted to eat the Sauna Mee Fish (MYR 16.85 nett) again but I did not so I ordered the Pumpkin Fried Rice at MYR 11.50 nett. I kept half the rice for dinner and gave the chili padi to my friend. This fried rice has pumpkin, corn, pieces of vegetables in it and no meat. Taste is ok. I think I prefer the pumpkin to be this way.
This dish is called sauna mee but all 3 of us chose to have brown rice instead of noodles. Basically this is like a hotpot filled with vegetables (tomatoes, corn, sweet peas, napa cabbage, lettuce, carrots, enoki mushroom) and 2 or 3 very thin slices of fish. As the price is MYR 16.85 nett, I cannot expect too much although my friend says that this is very healthy food. I kept half the brown rice for dinner.
This is gonna have to be a no from me, which is a shame since Mont Kiara and Hartamas are a char kuey teow desert. Although it costs one and a half times more, I’ll be getting my char kuey teow fix at My Hawker Stall in Solaris which has a vastly superior taste.
The kuey teow was evidently a popular choice among the folks here because the cook was going at it non stop. We did not have to wait long for our dish though, just a little over 10 minutes. Both the dishes were nice. The fried noodles weren’t overly spicy, had a nice flavor to it. The dish included some medium sized prawns, fishcakes and taugeh. As for the Wan Tan Mee, I liked the springy-ness of the noodles. Overall, a decent dish.
Overall, we enjoyed the noodles here as the flavours are not too strong and no MSG. The food prices here are very reasonable with lots of parking spaces and this is a good place for lunches, dinners and weekends with families. Want some good food without burning a big hole in your pocket, visit Bai Wei Cuisine at Desa Sri Hartamas.
Based on what we had, safe to say we won’t be returning anytime soon. The delicious sambal was the only thing that saved this meal from being a disaster. Also, I can’t help but compare Bai Wei Cuisine with Tang Pin Kitchen because their menu is almost like a mirror of each other. Overall, Tang Pin Kitchen is just better in every aspect.
I am happy that finally another decent eatery had just establish in Hartamas. Bai Wei Cuisine Restaurant (百味濃) bring had assemble variety of cuisine from different provinces in China, such as the classic dishes from Hainan, Teochew and more. This outlet is quite similiar to my personal favourite Tang Pin Kitchen at SS2 and their quality is pretty consistent over my past 3 random visits.
