Small bowl at RM 3.80 is really a good bargain. Filled with classic ingredients such as chicken feet, pig skin, pig intestine, herbal egg, special home blend garlic vinegar sauce and also chili paste. Love the starchy soup base with a bit of saltiness and sweetness to my liking as the amount of vinegar garlic is just nice and could be better if slightly stronger.

The gravy is definitely the one that makes Kim Leng loh mee unique. The thick gravy is flavourful and gives a bit hint of sweetness. It is very inviting. Next, KayaButter love its braised eggs, very well marinated. You can add extra ingredients as you like such as the chicken legs, braised eggs, meats and internal organs. Internal organs are not KayaButter’s favourite, so we ask them to exclude that in our loh mee. Oh ya, the loh mee also comes with pork’s skin.

The 3-flavored Black Pomfret did not impress us from the appearance but it was in fact, skillfully cooked. The flesh was moist and soft while the outer parts of the fish were deep fried to a crisp... slathered with a sweet-savory sauce. Noodles are deeply rooted in our culinary consciousness, there is no one size fits all. There are a lot of varieties on offer and they can come in different size, color, shape, texture as well as flavor. Typically, Pan Mee (a type of Hakka Noodles) is served in the shape of thin, round and smooth texture but Ah Ma Pan Mee, a newly opened Pan Mee specialist at 4th Street Club (Tye Sin Street) decides to do things differently. Using traditional recipe from Pahang, the noodle joint offers Pan Mee in its own style. While the soup bases and condiments are similar, the noodles stand out. They come in irregularly fat-round shape with al-dente (slightly chewy and bouncy) texture. The menu is not big but the air-conditioned restaurant offers a comfortable dining space for hungry diners to have a quick fix; definitely a place where fans of Pan Mee should check out.

Sabah Tomyam (RM 14.90) with fried fish. We are not sure whether this is the real version of Sabah Tomyam or not, as my few years experience in Sabah tells me otherwise. However, setting aside the arguement, the tomyam is great in taste, having a little bit milky taste with a mild spiciness. What we appreciate is the fried fish is served separately from the tomyam soup to prevent it become soggy after being "flooded" with the soup. An excellent choice for a chill night. You may choose the preferred type of noodles for the tomyam.

One of the dish that we miss the most from Taiwan would be their Minced Pork Rice. The portion is relatively small, exactly like the conventional portion offered in regular restaurants in Taiwan and the price is affordable too - just RM 8.00. The rice is topped with aromatic braised pork, braised egg and some vegetables. Flavour is simple and nice.

Feed Me Love's Hot Pot series would satisfy any big eaters, the serving portion is huge with a basket of Hot Pot ingredients as well as a bowl of White Rice. We had the Collagen Hot Pot... the seemingly healthy broth was delicious with a mild vegetable-sweetness but we did not feel a strong presence of the protein (Collagen), as though we were having ordinary healthy Hot Pot broth. The basket of Hot Pot ingredients are fixed but diners have the option to choose between Pork or Chicken.

Tea Hall (堂茶茶艺馆) is a time-honored restaurant that has been around for years... most of its businesses are by referral, the place sees constant gathering by a group of Chinese Tea-aficionados. Though it seems to be operating as a tea house, the menu is surprisingly extensive but all items are competitively priced. The air-conditioned restaurant is suitable for family gathering or a casual meal, it is popular amongst the white collar workers in the vicinity.

Curry Mee (otherwise known as Curry Laksa in central region) has always been one of Penangites' favorite local delicacies but the newly opened eatery along Kimberley Street offers the noodles with an upgrade. While the classic bowl of Curry Mee costs Rm 5 here, the deep pockets could go for the premium option with plenty of Seafood and Meat topped, at the price of Rm 11.50. The entire shop is dedicated to serving Curry Mee and has been drawing great attention from early risers and market-goers (right in front of the entrance to Chowrasta Market- Kimberley Street entrance). Curry Mee enthusiasts might welcome the idea but we'd like to think otherwise, perhaps a bowl of delicious-classic Curry Mee is good enough for us.

A new kid on the block, Colonial Kitchen Hainanese Cuisine is one of the latest eateries at Pulau Tikus (opposite Wisma Perkeso). The place serves an unassuming and unabashed Hainanese menu with some classic highlights such as Hainanese Pies, Chicken Chop and Pork Chop etc. It has been receiving positive remarks since its opening. Colonial Kitchen has a simple interior decor, not unnecessary frills but some basic tables and chairs (not even air-conditioner) but this does not stop gourmands from visiting the place; those who are in the know are particularly contented with their home-made Pies. Prices are however, slightly on the higher side.

Dim Sum Garden (佳佳点心苑) is usually packed with extended families, neighborhood regular patrons and adventurous foodies during peak hours (8 am to 11 am) in the weekends. It has the classic Malaysian Dim Sum joint setting- with simple tables and chairs being set up by the road side while the aged servers pushing the Dim Sum carts or carrying the Dim Sum baskets around. K.K is said to be one of the earliest Dim Sum joints in the neighborhood and its opening can be traced back to at least a decade ago. Do not expect a big variety but some straight-forward, unassuming timeless but solid Dim Sum favorites with one or two unique in-house specialties.

It has a restricted menu.... it only offers an array of Roast meat... served with springy Wan Ton Mee (no Rice is served if you must know) as well as Porridge. Staple for the working class heroes- Economy Rice has just got an upgrade here at Yu Shi Tang. Presentation is top notch... food does look more delicious with better presentation no? The offering here looks homey but the prices are very friendly to the wallet. From Rm 7.90 and above, diners are assured of a tummy-filling meal with at least two types of rice dishes. Despite of the discounted price, the comfort-level of the dining hall is not compromised. The place is clean and fully air-conditioned with tables well-spaced to ensure comfort. Food quality's slightly above average but not marvelous for us to go all out for them. Yu Shi Tang is housed in the same building as Burmahtel at Burmah Road, Pulau Tikus.

We did not try any of the Sze Chuan-influenced Hot Pot but a classic Herbal Cordyceps Chicken Pot instead. The Chicken (and Herbs) are cooked by order, within 15 minutes, the rich, flavorful Chicken Pot would be ready. The broth turns from milky white to yellow and diners waiting in anticipation will be caught in a whiff of alluring aroma of Chinese Herbs. We love how in dept the flavors were and the Chicken pieces were most delicious and tender. As we were about to finish, we requested the server to refill the Chicken broth and made it into Steamboat. For the portion, we thought the prices were well-justified.

Wholly Cow's signature Gu Bak Koay Teow is exactly how one would expect a bowl of delicious classic Beef Noodles would taste like. The broth was amazing.... with a robust meat flavor.
