Raffles Grill Restaurant

1 Beach Rd, Singapore 189673

No grand hotel is complete without a formal dining room and that is where Raffles Grill takes pride of place. Contemporary French cuisine is accentuated with Asian elements, made using only the freshest produce available. Equally remarkable is the wine collection, containing outstanding vintages from less renowned winemakers, in addition to noteworthy ones.

The food was surprisingly pleasant, and Soret has also crafted an intelligent wine list not at all unreasonably priced by Singaporean restaurant standards.

Cosying up in the cast iron casserole with some salad are their meaty frog legs - sautéed with garlic, onions and parsley. These aren't seasonal. I remember seeing them all the time on the menu. They're pretty good.

Overall Le Bistrot du Sommelier seem to have dropped a little in terms of my expectations, but do go for their duck rilette, beef onglet and poached pear for the complete quality meal. They are also offering a 3-course "TGV lunch" set for $35++ (menu here) that is good value for money!

It was educational; the service was impeccable; dining here can be considered as helping disenfranchised fellow humans; the darkness and no handphone policy create a social ambience where people can talk honestly and freely; and even the hypercritical Chiobu said the food was good.
