Another gravy-based dish we had was the Butter Pork (RM30). Taste-wise, this was one of the dish we’ve tried in Meat the Porkers. The pork was cooked to perfection with roasted tomato, butter and spices which resulted in a thick and creamy texture. It was mildly spicy and just one sip of this amazing gravy was enough to tantalize our taste buds.

Tandoori Malai Pork Ribs (RM48) with cheese, cream, cashew nuts and spices. Tandoori Pork Ribs rank next and fans of these should check out Herukh’s latest version – it’s the luscious pale-looking Tandoori Malai Pork Ribs. The “paleness” of the ribs is from cheese, cream, spices and blended cashew nuts rubbed into the slab of meat. Slightly charred at the edges, the aroma from this slab of succulent ribs was just insane!

For something memorable from MTR 1924, you must try their MTR’s Rava Idli. This particular food item was invented by its founder, Yagnanarayana. During World War II when India was hit by the great Bengal famine resulting in the short supply and rationing of rice, Yagnanarayana modified his idlis with semolina flour (rava) to replace the rice idly turning them into a filling and healthy steamed savoury cakes that go down in history.

Man, the fried tenggiri fish is da bomb. Do give it a try if you haven’t already. The price of the fish varies according to the size of the fish, so if you want a bigger piece of fish, do head on over to the frying pan and choose the fish you’d want them to fry for you. This seriously is delicious. If I was not watching my calories, I would order another one. The chicken varuval was equally as yummy. Usually, you would get quite a lot of bones accompanying the meat, as in the bits and pieces that accompanies the dish on a plate, sometimes you would get meat and some times bones. The bones kindda makes up a whole piece, with no meat on it. Here though, every piece has meat on it. Yay!

The fried chicken smelled robust and had a crispy texture on the outside while remaining juicy and tender on the inside. The chicken was also incredibly fresh as the kakak constantly fried and refilled the fried chicken tray.

Butter Chicken (S), 15 ringgit + Palak Paneer,14 ringgit. The Butter Chicken and Palak Paneer was equally as delicious. The gravies were awesome, a perfect combination with the naan. They both had generous filling. Both dishes were the ‘Small’ option and I was surprised as to how much filling it came with. If you eat in eateries like Tasty Chapati, they would give you even lesser filling at a higher price. Not here though. Here, it is decently priced. The chicken came in various sizes and pieces – big, small, long, short. You name it and it is there. The Palak Paneer, which basically consisted of spinach gravy with plenty of cheese cubes was tasty. I wouldnt change a thing.

Curry Leaf's signature curry fish head is good for a party of 4 or 5. I was quite surprised at the generous portion and I love the amount of eggplant and okra in it. This dish alone is sufficient to go without the banana leaf rice; thick flavourful gravy accompanied with fish and vegetables. We went for the roasted chicken and I was impressed by the generous portion that arrived. Food was delicious. If you are like me, a fan of thick, sweetish butter masala gravy, the Murgh Butter Tikka Masala would be an awesome choice. You’d get thick, creamy, buttery gravy with a sweetish kick + generous portions of boneless chicken tikka. The chicken tikka offers the buttery gravy a taste of spice. It is similar to the ones you would see accompanying a naan? It is roasted with spices coated on the top, the inside of the chicken would be soft and moist while the outer part is usually a crispy maroon-ish color, that is packed with spice? Yup, the similar ones are used here with the butter chicken gravy. Imagine the sweetness from the butter gravy+ the spices from the chicken tikka? Yummm! It also makes a perfect gravy for the rotis I ordered.

But, we were too young for banana leaf rice since the portion was huge and it had lots of curry and chili involved, so we basically just watched him eat lol. And then until last week, I suddenly had a crave for banana leaf rice and I don't know why. So, I went online and did some research about the best banana leaf restaurant in town. It came out with a list of restaurants and I picked Sri Nirwana Maju since it has lots of good reviews and also it's because I saw my ex-boss brought his wife to this restaurant for banana leaf rice as well. Okay, I trusted his taste, so Hubby and I just went for it.

Our Lobster Biryani @ RM280 was served in a large steel pot, sealed with pastry dough which locks up the flavours while cooking. This dish was so massive the staff had to use a trolley to send the large steel pot over to your table. Taste wise we thought it was simply delicious and imparted a unique sweetness which can’t be replaced with Chicken, Mutton or Lamb. This hint of sweetness which came from the Lobster helped elevate the dish to a different level compared to other biryanis. The lobster by itself was fresh and succulent and had that delicious tender bite.

No doubht, their curry banjir in my plate is fragrant and filled with spices, but the price of it is the killing factor. I would still prefer Pelita as the main choice of Nasi Kandar. Food Rating 6/10, expensive and slow service!.-Stamped-

The food is good. Price is quite similar to any other nasi kandar restaurant in town. I hope the service will improve as they have a potential to be very successful here.

3 tiny hoppers, 2 cocktails came up to RM126. Not even kidding you, these aren't fancy food that's worth RM126. Without the cocktail it would be fairly more reasonable. Will I return again? Perhaps yes - but I'll be more careful with the choices, no more peppered goat and cocktails. Honestly, it is very difficult to for us to have the urge to return if us consumers don't feel the value we are paying for. Nevertheless, something that's worth the credits - this idea is very interesting and very Instagram-friendly.

Reasons to visit: Chic and comfortable setting; great cocktails, with special mentions for Mr Ahmad and Mrs Lim; amazing hoppers to go with very reasonably priced cocktails, what with their weekend bottomless brunch menu; wine, champagne, whiskey and other drinking options are available upstairs as well, including local artisan wine.

At first we thought that the appams will not be able to fill our stomach and had even planned to go somewhere else for lunch. But after having our meal here, we decided to go straight home. Don’t underestimate these appams. They can fill you up to last the whole day.

It is definitely good, ‘sedap’ but it is not the best there is out there. The appeal here is the good food + affordable price point. Who can resist that combination, right?? It is ‘mamak’ food at its best. Food-wise, I was happy with everything except the Ayam Madu. I was expecting tender chicken with thick, sweetened honey syrup coating but here, it was done differently. Tender chicken it was but the ‘madu’ part was missing. In its place was some other gravy with onions. Besides that, food was yummy. The curry was thick and flavorful, the fried chicken was chewy yet tender. Bendi and cabbage were awesome additions in making both plates wholesome.

Their Sambal Fish was so delicious. It was truly one of the best that I have tasted. Been so long that I had food this good. Truly miss these places as it has been so long. The fish was slightly on the spicy side and came with some thick gravy. 10/10 is my rating for this. Similarly, their Fish Roe was another one that won my heart. Absolutely delicious stuff and I would rate it at 9/10.

Verdict? Never go to Kudu during Ramadhan month. The chicken is extremely hard - presumably from reheating the food due to low demand during Ramadhan month. Oh the chicken is rock hard I assure you can kill someone by throwing at them. The okra is clearly undercooked it wouldn't break apart when you bite it! Another colleague ordered the chicken drumstick, it is so small like which is as big as the Eclipse mint box! So pathetic.

Price-wise you can’t go wrong either; a bottle of wine and three mains didn’t delve too far into three figures. Recommended.

One of the reasons is the ambience, I think, it’s a barefoot restaurant; you have to leave your shoes at the entrance of the stairs, and walk up to the second floor (so don’t wear your expensive shoes, wait kanna stolen).

Overall another great dinner with Eve and MN. The company was great and so were the food. We all come to a conclusion that the meat dishes here are more worth trying than their seafood.

The chicken curry … surprisingly, I liked it. I usually like my curries thick but here, it is a tad watery than what I am used to but it does not lack in flavor. The reason I do fancy thicker curries is because I like the gravies packed with flavors and in most cases, the watery versions are often diluted, muted down. So, when I tasted the curry here, I was surprised – it is a lil watery and yet it tasted like a curry I’d like.

All the four chutneys were awesome. They were so good that I had to ask for more and despite having such a crowd, they managed to serve me more. The vegetables were also very tasty and fresh. Good thing is that they were not overdone and the flavours were good. Both their Venthaya Kulambu and Chicken Kulambu was awesome as well. 9/10 for their Chutneys, 8/10 for their Veggies and 9/10 for both their Kulambu's.

I absolutely love the Fish Amritsari Tacos – seabass marinated in ginger, garlic, carom seeds and other spices and gram flour, lightly battered and then fried till crisp. A popular street food item in India, the fried fish is served on a tortilla, topped with tomato salsa and drizzled with a special sauce. Eat this immediately when served, before the tortilla gets soggy – the fried fish is insanely good!
