Torii is a Japanese pub alike restaurant with yakitori a.k.a meat skewers as their signature. They have a range of sake, red wines, champagnes and any other exotic type of alcohol beverages which you may never heard of. The most bizarre wine which cost RM15,000++ is also available here. I wonder how long does it takes for them to sell one bottle of that.

Shin Nihon 新日本焼肉党 Restaurant

No 26 Jalan 24/70A Desa Sri Hartamas 50480 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

It is said that about 60 years ago in Japan, the current style of charcoal grilling beef began. In the 60 years since then, various restaurants have worked hard, continuing to study improvements in breeding cattle, selecting suitable meat for grilling, aging methods, slicing perfect cuts, creating sauces and seasonings that pair well with beef and so on. We also have a flagship store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo where we constantly strive to improve on a daily basis to provide delicious grilled beef at a reasonable price. We wanted Malaysians as well as Japanese people living in Kuala Lumpur to be able to enjoy the same style of charcoal grilled beef that we offer in Japan, therefore we have opened this location here in Kuala Lumpur. For our Japanese customers, we are aiming to achieve a level of quality that they will never have to say, “When I return to Japan, I want to eat delicious charcoal grilled beef” because they will have it right here in Kuala Lumpur. Expertly selected beef, aging methods, preparation, cutting, as well as the flavor of sauce and our accompanying dishes suitably paired with grilled meat – we invite you to enjoy all of these fine details catered to creating the perfect dining experience for you.

If you've never tried beef tongue before, I urge you to do so here at Shin Nihon. We were well-impressed with the atsugiri tan (RM35), also known as salted thick cut tongue. It is one of the most popular items here and it's easy to see why. Even in its raw form, the sight of the beautiful marbling is enough to make us drool. The staff will season it with salt and then grill it on the charcoal grill in front of you. The beef tongue used here is Wagyu, so the meat has a slight bite then gives way to a melt-in-the-mouth texture. So so good!

If you're craving juicy yet good quality steaks, then this no-frills place for meat, cooked the Japanese way with simply just salt and black pepper, is definitely worth a visit. Although I won't go as far as to say that the steaks here are cheap since some of the wagyu beef can go as high as RM200, you can still find some very reasonably-priced and affordable Australian beef cuts for around RM25. So, go with what you think is within your budget. Besides a meat fest, there are plenty more food options here (like sushi, sashimi, tempura and bento) though I'll be more tempted by the lust of gorgeous meat more than anything else if I'm here again!

For the past couple of days, I have been having cravings for Don (short for donburi - a Japanese rice bowl dish). Hence I decided to drop by Five-HT, a Japanese Fusion restaurant, for dinner. One of the reasons why I enjoy fusion food so much is because the amalgamation of flavors and textures, never ceased to surprise me. Marrying conventional ingredients the unconventional way - sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't, and at most instances, I'd never know what to expect. My Personal Opinion Though the yakitori seems reasonably priced from RM5 to RM18 per stick, the fact remains that you'll need quite a few sticks to be full. Imagine you're eating satay, if you need 10 sticks to be full, you'll need 10 skewers of meat...and at an average price of RM10 - RM12 a stick, you do the math, the amount can add up very quickly. Even I can easily down 10 sticks, so you can imagine how many sticks the more ferocious eaters may need. But since the skewers weren't that successful anyway (other than the wings), I'd probably stick to their Japas and donburi offerings with a few occasional skewers. Still a good place to unwind, over the weekend or after work, with a couple of Japas in one hand and a beer or sake in the other! ^_^

A Bento box is a handy solution to the standard rectangular lunchbox. The secure lid opens to reveal a compartment style interior where different foods can be placed in different sections of the box. These compartments are just big enough so that you do not need to overfill one type of food. Hence, a more complete balanced meal is obtained in one Bento box. Since the amount is fixed before lunch time, we don’t have to over eat even though we are hungry. Balanced diet and controlled portion, how cool is that? For those shopping or working in KL city, do you know that you can now have a balanced and fulfilling Japanese bento meal at ISETAN THE JAPAN STORE for only RM15?

This round I tried their cheese version. Turns out to be alright. Slightly crispy skin soft filling inside and it is quite similiar to the one I had in Bangkok 3 months ago. It is a tricky snacks that serve in variety of texture. Every one have their own preference. Food Rating 6.5/10, not bad la, as slightly expensive~ -Stamped-
