We hand craft kakigōri, Japanese shaved ice flavoured with fresh fruits and premium ingredients to bring a breeze of cool air to Malaysia (whilst making it taste nice too). Kakigōri’s fuwa-fuwa(ふわふわ) soft fluffy shaved ice is similar to newly fallen snow. It is only paired with the best of what’s in season. We never add anything weird like artificial colouring or flavouring, and they’re never, ever made from concentrate. Welcome to our bizarre, delicious, frozen paradise.

If you are in the mood for something light but besides the shaved ice, then do consider the Warabimochi. It comes in 14 cubes – 7 normal flavored and 7 matcha flavored, with a side of sugar syrup. If you are a Matcha fan and intent to truly enjoy its distinct flavor, then perhaps skip the syrup or drizzle just a lil bit. I am not really a matcha fan and so I kindda drowned the whole thing with the syrup which worked well because the syrup did tone down the Matcha flavor quite a bit which bode well with me. Once the Macha powder is drowned, I had no issue at all ‘hantaming’ it. This dish was awesome, chewy and tasty. Oooo, I even had a couple of cubes with the shaved it – the difference in texture and taste was fantastic.

Shin Nihon 新日本焼肉党 Restaurant

No 26 Jalan 24/70A Desa Sri Hartamas 50480 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

It is said that about 60 years ago in Japan, the current style of charcoal grilling beef began. In the 60 years since then, various restaurants have worked hard, continuing to study improvements in breeding cattle, selecting suitable meat for grilling, aging methods, slicing perfect cuts, creating sauces and seasonings that pair well with beef and so on. We also have a flagship store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo where we constantly strive to improve on a daily basis to provide delicious grilled beef at a reasonable price. We wanted Malaysians as well as Japanese people living in Kuala Lumpur to be able to enjoy the same style of charcoal grilled beef that we offer in Japan, therefore we have opened this location here in Kuala Lumpur. For our Japanese customers, we are aiming to achieve a level of quality that they will never have to say, “When I return to Japan, I want to eat delicious charcoal grilled beef” because they will have it right here in Kuala Lumpur. Expertly selected beef, aging methods, preparation, cutting, as well as the flavor of sauce and our accompanying dishes suitably paired with grilled meat – we invite you to enjoy all of these fine details catered to creating the perfect dining experience for you.

If you've never tried beef tongue before, I urge you to do so here at Shin Nihon. We were well-impressed with the atsugiri tan (RM35), also known as salted thick cut tongue. It is one of the most popular items here and it's easy to see why. Even in its raw form, the sight of the beautiful marbling is enough to make us drool. The staff will season it with salt and then grill it on the charcoal grill in front of you. The beef tongue used here is Wagyu, so the meat has a slight bite then gives way to a melt-in-the-mouth texture. So so good!

To start things off, I had the Thick Cut Tongue (RM35.00). It took a quick 3-minutes to grill, and let me tell you this - the two chunks of tongue were amazing. It had great textures that was fatty yet flavorsome. I'd highly recommend ordering this here.

Likes: Pretty plating - each set comes with appetisers and soup. Prettier presentation will always increase one's appetite. Prices are pretty reasonable too... Generally a great place to hang out for lunch and to those who loves to take photos, the lighting for this place is fantastic. Dislikes: Staffs needs to be more attentive - not only they do mistakes, they are very slow too. Not sure if they don't understand customers or something just wasn't quite right that day. Also, their private room requires a minimum spend which I thought was ridiculous. That was the only place which could fit a party of 10. Also, the amount told on the phone was different from the amount that they mentioned on the day where we went. It's a nice place to dine, just that they need to be a bit more consistent and improve on their service. Train your staffs, do what it takes to make it a better experience for customers.

For the past couple of days, I have been having cravings for Don (short for donburi - a Japanese rice bowl dish). Hence I decided to drop by Five-HT, a Japanese Fusion restaurant, for dinner. One of the reasons why I enjoy fusion food so much is because the amalgamation of flavors and textures, never ceased to surprise me. My Personal Opinion Though the yakitori seems reasonably priced from RM5 to RM18 per stick, the fact remains that you'll need quite a few sticks to be full. Imagine you're eating satay, if you need 10 sticks to be full, you'll need 10 skewers of meat...and at an average price of RM10 - RM12 a stick, you do the math, the amount can add up very quickly. Even I can easily down 10 sticks, so you can imagine how many sticks the more ferocious eaters may need. But since the skewers weren't that successful anyway (other than the wings), I'd probably stick to their Japas and donburi offerings with a few occasional skewers. Still a good place to unwind, over the weekend or after work, with a couple of Japas in one hand and a beer or sake in the other! ^_^

Likes: Convenient, as I visit one of the centres quite often. The noodles are great, and that is about it. Dislikes: Inconsistent quality. Main Jap chef isn't always there, and you tend to get lousier yakitoris. In our case, the innards were subpar and to things even more miserable - salad was flat.

Overall, it was an average dinner for us. Thank god!! I never order anything more than that. So after our pathetic dinner, me and my sister decided to go for supper on our way back home. In terms of Portion & price, I still prefer Sushi Tei and Sushi Zanmai. So much better!!

I start my lunch with this green tea soft serve and jelly dessert at MYR 11.99+ (10% service charge = MYR 13.18 nett). The green tea taste is very light but the burnt sugar syrup lifted the taste.

Oyakodon Ricebowl, 18 ringgit Between the rice bowl and the noodles, I was in love with this particular rice bowl. I am a fan of caramelized onion and this dish came with it, in a generous portion. It was da bomb. The egg resembled a plain omelette – fluffy and buttery. Underneath the bed of egg, there was a chicken fillet and sticky, gooey Japanese rice. Usually I like my rice bowls with plenty of gravy which was not the case here – but it totally worked. I loved it.
