Inspired by the Chong Qing-Grilled Fish, Fatt Kee Roast Fish has recently gained a lot of attention from netizens due to its gigantic serving with loads of Seafood swimming in the huge pot. The concept is not new- Deep Fried Fish with Seafood (like Prawns, Squid, Flower Clams) and vegetables soaked in a spicy-savory Seafood broth; served in the way similar to Hot Pot/ Steamboat. The spiciness varies and can be tuned accordingly but the heat-intolerant should be extra careful on selecting the spiciness as it can be lip-burning hot. It can be then enjoyed just like an ordinary Hot Pot, with extra condiments like Udon, Vegetables and Seafood to be added. Do note that there are two branches and both locations are near to each other; one is air-conditioned while another one is al-fresco setting. The flavors were fun and the combination was exciting, a place worth visiting.

This Pommery Lamb & Hummus sat there comfotably, its rack like fingers called out to me seductively. This time it's a blend of New Zealand lamb with the Middle Eastern hummus. This was our best dish of the evening, the lamb was nicely done with a good crusty layer leading to a soft juicy inside. We took small tasteful bites of it while enjoying the view.

This is the Nestle Prawns – unpeeled prawns cooked with nestum. The prawns were huge and fresh. They were so crunchy that I could eat it as a whole without peeling the prawns. This is one of the best dish that night.

Penang Dry Kuay Teow, 8.50 ringgit. I most probably would not order this dish again. It basically was a kechupy noodle with slices of steamed chicken and some salad greens. Yup. I think I ordered the wrong dish thinking it was actually fried kuay teow. That was my bad, should have known better but I was in la la land. I saw another table ordering the curry mee – which looked and smelled awesome and they looked like regulars. So, I guess some dishes here are good and some are not.

The Char Koay Teow may not look much different from the others, but it was really delicious, fragrantly fried with lots of “wok-hei” flavour! We suspected the use of duck egg made the delectable plate even more fragrant. It didn’t leave a very greasy feel too. The place was in in full swing on Sunday morning circa 10.00am and we were lucky to secure the last table or else we might need to wait table for hours according to Ken. We placed our order and wait patiently for our food to be served. There are other foods available in the coffee shop too such as prawn noodle (known as Hokkien Mee in Penang), Lor Bak and etc.

Penang Assam Laksa or better known as Penang Laksa, is originated from the emergence of Chinese and Malay elements (Baba and Nyonya). The specialty of Penang Laksa is its thick and sour minced fish soup with a little spiciness. That is because the soup is cooked with chili paste and assam (tamarind) water to prevent the fishy smell. The soup is served with rice noodles and vegetables, and shrimp paste. The shrimp paste adds sweetness to the soup, which distinguish Penang Laksa from other types of Laksa in Malaysia.

My verdict : With its 4 ringgit per bowl price, everything’s worth it! The sour tamarind sauce, the salty and thick fish stock blended so well with chillies and the herbs and noodles and everything on it! Thankfully, I had the chance to understand the logic of CNN in naming Penang Assam Laksa as 7th out of 50 Most Delicious Foods in the World! It was indeed, delicious!

My Penang laksa. The soup base is very flavorful and filled with generous amount of flaked mackerels. The 'ha-ko'/ thick prawn paste amplify the flavor of this dish much, much more. Sweet, sourish taste with refreshing mint and onion slices stimulates all my taste buds!

Small bowl at RM 3.80 is really a good bargain. Filled with classic ingredients such as chicken feet, pig skin, pig intestine, herbal egg, special home blend garlic vinegar sauce and also chili paste. Love the starchy soup base with a bit of saltiness and sweetness to my liking as the amount of vinegar garlic is just nice and could be better if slightly stronger.

The gravy is definitely the one that makes Kim Leng loh mee unique. The thick gravy is flavourful and gives a bit hint of sweetness. It is very inviting. Next, KayaButter love its braised eggs, very well marinated. You can add extra ingredients as you like such as the chicken legs, braised eggs, meats and internal organs. Internal organs are not KayaButter’s favourite, so we ask them to exclude that in our loh mee. Oh ya, the loh mee also comes with pork’s skin.

Usually there’s a long wait for the freshly baked egg tarts, but we were lucky to able to get our hands on them within minutes. Nam Heong’s egg tarts are actually as good as what you get at Hong Kee and their main difference lies in the tart shell. As you can see Nam Heong’s egg tart crust is layered which contributes to that crispy and satisfying bite. It’s also a good idea to enjoy the tarts as soon as possible while they are still warm. Nam Heong Ipoh Nasi Lemak One of the main difference this version compared to those that we have eaten at other places; is the rice which is Pandan flavored. The Penang Asam Laksa RM10.50 is one of our favourite food that we refuse to miss whenever we got the chance to order for a meal. Nyonya Cendol’s Asam Laksa won our heart mainly due to its huge chunks of sardines fishes scattered evenly around the bowl with fine shredded garnishes/spices, quite sour (too many pineapples) compared to normal version but still “Banyak Sedap”! 😉

For a basic pot of soup, it comes with seaweed, deep fried bean curb, fish meat…and others. This Teo Chew steamboat is definitely different from the famous mainland as its not milky soup base, and the soup is very sweet by itself with fish meat and yam, we cannot imagine the amount of ingredients being used and hours to cook in it. Chee Cheong Fun is also available from Xiang Yun. After nicely steamed, the rice dough is rolled to resemble pig intestines, then chopped to smaller rolls. Despite its plain look, I find the dish quite appetizing when consumed with the sweet sauce and generous garnishing of sesame seed.

The freshness of prawns truly brought out and add flavour to the gravy. The soaked 'wan tan mee' noodles in the gravy was delicious- much could be said to the fried, still crispy ones too. Priciest dish on the table but satisfying.

Unlike other claypot Lou Shu Fan which is usually very dry and dark in color, this has white-yellowish gravy instead. It is a very popular place for lunch among those working in TPM (Technology Park Malaysia) and Astro Bukit Jalil. But don’t worry, it opens at night as well because I had this for dinner.

Bak Kut Teh turned out to be a delightful surprise. Flavorful and rated as good for someone who rarely fancy vegetable soup and brown rice. It is a creative dish when Idealite's chef introduced buckwheat noodles in this Tomyum soup. Yes, I picked buckwheat and this is more commonly known as 'Soba' on Japanese menu. Despite its name, buckwheat is unlike wheat, it is gluten free!

As for desserts, we had this Signature Sesame Paste and it was really good. Not only black sesame seeds were blended, but also some Millet were added to give the extra flavor. It was not too sweet and just perfectly nice for people who does not have a sweet tooth like me.
