I ordered lontong as I wanted to try it the previous time at MYR 12.30 nett. I like all the ingredients - tempeh, hard boiled egg, beancurd puffs, glass noodles, compressed rice, squid sambal, and lots of other vegetables in the coconut milk rich gravy. If only the gravy is less salty then I would order this again.

I ordered the Nasi Lemak Biasa set meal – I got what I ordered, it certainly did fill my stomach to keep me going throughout the day. Taste wise however, it was okayla, not bad. Perhaps if you fancy something more yummy and not ‘biasa’, then you would be better off ordering items from their normal menu and not the Breakfast Set. Feel me? I’ve tried their Nasi Lemak Ayam from their normal Menu and I loved it. It was delicious. So yea. Same thing with the Chee Cheong Fun, it was okayla. My friend wanted that dish and that was what he got, similarly, I wanted Nasi Lemak and that was what I got.

Bansan Bistro Restaurant

Lot UG-08, Level UG The Sphere No 1, Avenue 1 8, Jalan Kerinchi Bangsar South 59200 Kuala Lumpur

Bansan means market or a potpourri of food. It surprises and delights the palate in a modern interpretation of an old-world charm. Some of the best cuisines from Penang will represent this rich culinary mix but modernized for that dash of panache. Styles are refined and tuned up, even the art style of the bistro and especially the upbeat house music. It blends good food, great music and wine in a deliciously balanced eat and beat chill club reminiscent of the old communal market halls.

Asam Laksa, 16 ringgit. The Asam Laksa was good. The only downside to this dish was that the broth was a tad watery. Other than that, it was all good. It tasted awesome, I enjoyed slurping it away , it surprisingly eased my throat. I like how they cut the laksa noodles into smaller pieces. The long noodles are usually slippery, it often is a battle in it self using chopsticks to get a couple of those noodles onto the spoon. Well, in this case, they thought about this complication and made it a whole lot easier for me. As, you would notice, the dish came in a generous portion – lots of noodles, onions, greens, 2 large pieces of fish. It certainly did fill my tummy, satisfyingly.

Chicken Satay (a dozen/12 pieces), 26.90 ringgit. The satay was pretty good and it came with two options – beef and chicken, I ordered the latter. The satay was yummy mostly because of the peanut sauce. I like eating the chicken bits on its own before dunking it into the peanut sauce because I usually find it being glazed with a thin layer of sweet sticky flavorful gravy but that was not the case here. Here, the chicken on its own does not come with additional flavor, just plain ol roast chicken? but when you dunk it into the peanut sauce – then it becomes da bomb! A lil sweet, a lil crunchy, a lil chewy and plenty of flavor. Yummy!

Lontong Set it is for me at MYR 13 nett. I requested for no sugar for my barley drink with ice. The gravy broth for this lontong is very creamy with coconut milk, rich with galangal taste and less salty than the one at AMAH. It has long beans, carrots, cabbages, jicamas and a half hard boiled egg with 8 compressed rice cubes. I returned the saucer of sambal immediately when it was served because it would be too flavourful and spicy for me if I eat the sambal as well.

Peranakan Place - NU Sentral Restaurant

Lot. L5.03 & L5.04 Level 5 NU Sentral Shopping Centre 201 Jalan Tun Sambanthan Kuala Lumpur Sentral 50470 Kuala Lumpur

In the 16th centuries, the Straits Settlements of Penang, Malacca and Singapore has witnessed the mingling of cultures between the early Chinese immigrants with the Malays, Indian and Indonesian. The Straits-born Chinese, or the Peranakans, emerged out of this ‘melting pot’ with a set of customs, cultures, language, architecture, cuisine and values wholly their own. Their colourful speech, ornate full-scale ceremonies and distinctive terrace houses reflect this rich medley of influences. The Peranakans are celebrated for their cuisine, whose main ingredients used are Chinese enriched with the blend of a host of culinary styles. This wealth of heritage has been well preserved at Peranakan Place.

The skin of the wantons is too thin so although it is very crispy, it is too oily but the filling is tasty with a cube of crunchy jicama or water chestnut in each wanton. This Curry Chicken Puff was one of the best puffs that I have come across. Unlike the rest that only comes with plain curry, this was actually filled with minced chicken and it totally filled the puffs. The size of the puff was pretty large as well and good to fill a moderate eater. The crispy layers of the puff were excellent and so was the curry fillings. 10/10 is what I shall be giving for this. Highly recommended!
