This is how a proper Mee Pok (RM8.50) should look like. It should be dry, the noodle should be springy and there should be a balanced amount of minced meat and lard to go around. But what really makes the noodle is the chili sauce which adds an appetizing kick to the overall experience. Without the chili sauce, the mee pok wouldn’t be complete.

The story of GO Noodle House revolves around the values of rela onship. At a dinner hosted by one of the co-founders in his humble home, the group of friends were impressed by the tradi onal ChaoZhou soup served by his mother. Using this family recipe, which evolved from the Qing Dynasty, as a base, the group of friends re ned the technique and set up the very rst GO Noodle House in 2014. Using superior pork broth, enhanced with premium yellow rice wine, as a base – diners can choose a variety of noodles and toppings to make a delicious and wholesome meal. A crowd favourite is GO Noodle House’s signature mi xian, which is made from pure rice our. The signature bursting meatball is also an ever present in almost every order. Aside from pork-based top- pings, guests can also choose to add on a wide variety of beef and seafood.

I notice a new item on the menu of Go Noodle so I ordered it to try. A bowl of Sui Gao (dumpling Beijing style) in soup at MYR 14.50++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 16.82 nett). The skin is thick so I like it. The minced pork and chives fillings reminded me of the fillings of Siew Long Bao sold by Esquire Kitchen. There are about 8 dumplings in one bowl. I recommended this dish to my family and they like it too because they like Beijing style dumplings.

The signature rice noodles with meatball, which according to others, the meatball has a soupy and juicy filling, which will burst in your mouth. I started with having a sip of its soup and it did not disappoint me. The soup, which was made from fish bone, was flavourful but refreshing at the same time. The rice noodles were very springy, well absorbed with the soup. While others may not like coriander, I was very pleased that coriander was given generously on the top of my bowl. Anyway, if you don't like it, you may opt it out by informing the waiter.

My Personal Opinion Still more than a decent place for roasted meats with a few crowd-pleasing side snacks, crispy or otherwise. Best choice will be the char siew followed by the poached or fried chicken and siew yuk in that order...hehe! ;) The texture of the wantan noodles, which are thinner than the norm, tends to be a bit on the soft side (I don't remember them being this soft previously). Either that or they were overcooked. So, if you don't like soft noodles, have your roasted meats with rice instead. I did enjoy their new dish of minced pork with barbecued sausages as I find the noodles of this one not as soft.

Chan SinKee Noodle 陈新记 Restaurant

1 Jalan PJU 5/4 Dataran Sunway Kota Damansara 47810 Petaling Jaya Selangor Malaysia

The original Cantonese Style Dried Noodles from Guangdong, China, uses ingredients such as lard, soy sauce or oyster sauce. When it arrives in Southeast Asia, it adapts to local taste: Northern Malaysian like it with a hint of dark soy sauce; Midland Malaysian with extra dark soy sauce; whereas Southern Malaysian love their noodles with tomatoes and chilli sauce. In Pontian, the little town located at the southern part of Johor, the locals love their Wonton noodles with tomatoes sauce and a splash of chilli sauce. They called it Red noodles or Dried noodles with tomatoes sauce, and it has since become a popular local speciality. At first, tomatoes sauce was added because the children love the sweet and sour taste in the noodle. As Southeast Asian like spicy food, so chilli sauce was experimented as well, and this innovative combination has brought a unique taste and style in world of Wonton Noodles. Pontian Wonton Noodle is a fusion of cross cultural ingredients: Chaozhou style fish balls sets in a bed of Cantonese style homemade Wonton egg noodles; mixed with Western tomatoes sauce, and infused with Southeast Asian spicy flavour chilli sauce - an ingenious blend of western and oriental food. Truth is the red chili sauce may look unappealing during the initial moment, nor the taste was not that impressive at the very first bite. However as you go for more noodles, a pleasant taste builds up, along with a nice aroma that tempted us to go more for the noodles. At the same time, we also tried Black Chili Wantan Mee with thicker noodles. It tasted like conventional wantan mee but with an added heat component. A great choice too.

We tried out their classic signature which is the Black Chili Wantan Mee @ RM7.90 small. That serve along with their homemade chili and give you a slight unique twist. Not your typical wan tan mee flavour that you could execpt however it is not too bad. Give you hint of mild spicy and sourness. Not too bad though. Worth to give it a try.

Many years ago, I would have told you to get out of here if you told me about mixing red chili sauce into wantan mee. As someone who hails from Penang, that concept was simply bizarre because we are so used to eating wantan mee with pickled chillies. But today, I would gladly eat it any day of the week. The thing is, you need to find “that” place that prepares this kind of wantan mee with respect it deserves. Otherwise you would find it repulsive and avoid it in future. For example, if you are a Japanese food virgin and you had your first Japanese meal at crappy Japanese buffet restaurant – I am sure you will think that Japanese food sucks. First impression matters a lot.

Fried Fish Paste Noodles, 11.90 ringgit Food was good. I especially loved the broth. It was milky and the taste of fish paste was evident, prominent. The dose of Chinese wine was a good addition, it provided that extra ‘kick’, one that made slurping the broth an even more joy. They had 3 options for noodles and while I was intending to have my dish with YM – yellow mee, the waiter suggested that it would go better with MH – mee hoon. Since they do not offer an option of mixed noodles, I went along with their suggestion. The noodles sure were generously portioned. I was very hungry when I arrived and by the time I was done, I sure was stuffed. Burp

(506 B) Spicy Hakka Style Fried Pork, 14.90. ‘Dry’ Option : Spicy Hakka Style Fried Pork. When it first arrived at my table, I was like “it looks kindda little” but after mixing it all up and eating it – do not underestimate its power to fill you up faster than anticipated. The fried pork meat came in generous meaty chunks. As you can most probably see from the images above, the pork is a lil different. Rather than the usual BBQ sauce glazed, thinly sliced pork meat with or without fats, here – you would get fried pork meat. It tasted awesome. Different but awesome. There was also a generous portion of flavorful seaweed? Mix them all up with the noodles and you’d get a wholesome plate of yumminess. Loved this!

Bankara Ramen - Mid Valley Restaurant

T-028, 3rd Floor Mid Valley Megamall Mid Valley City Lingkaran Syed Putra 59200 Kuala Lumpur

The word ”Bankara” is a colloquial term that was once used in Japan to best describe an individual outstanding and unique style amidst the swarm of a conformist society. Bankara’s brand values and product offering are unmistakably Japanese, yet differentiated from the market competitors in tantalising the customers dining experience, namely the palette and sensory immersion. Embracing the philosophy “Cooking by Heart”, Bankara brand is the result of Mr. Kusano’s desire to constantly innovate and improve the taste of Japanese ramen. Drawing upon his family’s expertise handed down through the generations, Mr. Kusano embarked on a quest in selecting the finest of ingredients and cooking techniques, to develop a new ramen soup recipe. In 1998, the “Impact” taste so broadly associated with the brand, heralded the arrival of the Bankara Signature Ramen. With over 60 premium outlets spanning across Japan, Indonesia and Thailand, we proudly present Bankara Raman Malaysia.

Cheap eatery located at Uptown. Spoke to the owner and she said she is the sister of the one who runs the famous Pudu May King Lum Mee. No wonder it tasted so similar! The obvious difference is the chilli - the chilli at Uptown didn't taste as good as the one at Pudu. It was a more diluted and milder. Nevertheless, the rest are pretty much about the same. Also, to take note, this restaurant do not serve pork. Enjoy!
