For those who are not into noodles, you can have their nasi lemak with either luncheon meat or fried chicken (go for the luncheon meat). ^_~ For a Chinese-style nasi lemak, they do justice to the sambal (but a little on the salty side). The thing they need to improve is the always the over-fried egg.

ALANNA'S Kitchen Restaurant Restaurant

No 8, Jalan Pandan Indah 1/23D 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

We are a HALAL restaurant/cafe that serves Arabic, Asian & Western food. Most ingredients used and all cakes are home/hand made.

Since Alanna's speciality is Arabic food, we decided to give it a go just to see if we like it starting with the Arabic BBQ Chicken + Rice @ RM14.50 accompanied by long grain rice spiced with cloves, cardamom and black peppercorns (that almost mimics nasi biryani), vegetables and fries. The chicken breast was well marinated with lots of spices though on the dry side but still edible.

My Personal Opinion Depending on what you order, you may come away with a fairly satisfying meal here with prices that are within the affordable range. I think the rice sets and dark sauce noodles are the more successful dishes here. It's just another option for our family dinners when I don't cook...and when we don't feel like eating at hawker stalls.

This sushi joint is now my preferred choice of cheap conveyor-belt sushi in my housing area which I can rely on for weekday dinners when I'm not in the mood to cook. Since coming to Sakura Sushi, I've stopped visiting the other cheap conveyor-belt sushi in my neighbourhood, Sushi Mentai, altogether and that's because Sakura's sushi and a la carte items taste better, not because they offer cheaper sushi. The owner is very friendly....and he always makes me feel welcome. I sincerely hope that he will maintain his standards and not cut corners now that the business is flourishing (and doing better than Sushi Mentai). Just one parting note...the taste equates the price we pay....and, if you remember that, you should do alright here! ^_*

My Personal Opinion It serves one of the more crispy roti canai/telur I know and their sambal (which is closer to a Malay-style sambal) is pretty good too (I guess having Malay cooks help in this aspect as their goreng goreng dishes work). I also like that the place is considerably cleaner (and brighter) than most mamaks I've been to.

All in all, this is a worthy replacement of the previous tai chow place that occupied the space here. Though prices may be slightly higher but then this place is little bit more premium in looks and offerings with both an air-conditioned and an outdoor dining area plus a proper menu. Perhaps some of the dishes can't compare with the previous tai chow place but we also had some dishes that weren't offered by the previous place. So, this still makes a good neighbourhood tai chow place for some of our weekday and weekend dinners.

Certainly one of the choice coffee shops here...and the three stalls I highlighted are the best this coffee shop has to offer. Eating either one of these should satisfy you. The only bummer is that this shop doesn't open at night, it's only for breakfast and lunch. So you can't get fried noodles for dinner when you want it most! :( This coffee shop is what Pandan Indah can offer in terms of excellent fish ball noodles, good sam kan chong noodles and decent stir-fried noodles. Obviously, it's one of our favourites. There are abundant choices here and you're likely to find one that meets your approval, I'm sure.

Though the grilled chicken chop (and black pepper sauce) is satisfactory in taste, the food just screams ordinary, unimaginative, run-of-the-mill! >_< The chicken chop with black pepper sauce tastes like something I can get out of a good western stall in a coffee shop...for less. And the pastas look like something I can replicate at home to a fair degree of success too.

My Personal Opinion All the noodles I tried lacked seasoning (including the shrimp cake)...and coming from someone who don't like her food too savoury, that's saying a lot. So this is more suited to tastebuds that like their food less salty or on the bland side. After three unimpressive visits, I don't think I'll be back to try anything else.

For nasi lemak lovers, this is the place for you as you have a vast choice of having it with either (let me take a deep breath first)....chicken rendang, chicken curry, ayam masak merah, ayam masak kicap, ayam goreng berempah, mutton curry, beef rendang, beef stomach, oxtail rendang, ikan kembong sambal or ikan kembong masah merah...phew! :P The food showcased here is just a fraction of what they have on offer as the menu is so extensive. I can't explain it but once I've had a plate of their average tasting nasi lemak, I have this feeling that I won't want to eat it again for months! @_@ Though their nasi lemak is their signature dish, it was the mee siam that I enjoyed most. None of the snacks I had so far (including the cendol) left an impression. If I had to choose one, it'd probably be the roti boom. And best to stay away from the drinks unless you want to be in a diabetic coma! The upside....portions and price! ^_* Portions are very generous and will appeal to the bigger-eaters with many of the main dishes costing under RM10. If your tastebuds are easily satisfied, then make a beeline for this place as it'll certainly fill your stomachs to the brim! :)

Mama Kim Sauna Mee - Pandan Indah Restaurant

No. 1, Jalan Pandan Indah 4/2 Pandan Indah 55100 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

in-house health cuisine has always been about the health of customers and to promote awareness amongst its daily customers. The dishes in the menu are specially made for the workaholic employee or employer so that they can enjoy a healthy balanced meal, without the worries of it being utterly tasteless. The dishes in-house health cuisine provides aids as a supplement to a daily balance diet for its customers. The concept of 80% vegetable and 20% meat in a single dish is what every dish made in in-house health cuisine will compromise of.

The prawn mee and yong tau foo are the two stalls you should head straight for when you're here. The prawn mee can rival some of the best I've had and their fried shallots are as fresh as you can get, so make sure you ask for extra (for a small fee lah) if you're a big fan of fried shallots like me. Also, don't miss the extra-long fried fu chuk roll with your other favourite yong tau foo types while you're here.

I prefer the stew over the plain beef soup. This is braised till tender and it's very flavourful. The Porridge @ RM5 with bits of century egg, salted egg and minced pork, topped with a few crunchy slices of "yaw char kwai" (Chinese crullers), had just the right texture and consistency. I like how fresh and finely julienned the ginger was too that added freshness to the mild-tasting porridge (some might feel the flavour is a tad too light).
