When you have a group of two, it's harder to have a good variety of food when eating at Chinese restaurants. So with our group of four, it was a good time to go try out the food at Teo Soon Loong, a well-known Teochew restaurant in Malacca. It used to be in a tiny coffee shop on Jalan Hang Kasturi, just round the corner from Jalan Hang Jebat, but has shifted out of the Old Town to a newer, much larger restaurant in a newer part of the city (on the reclaimed land area).

整体来说这里的菜色很家常，味道算可以不过没到我预先想像的水准，也没到会让我排队去吃的程度，价钱算高，盛名如此，有点言过其实哦！

我其实喜欢这里的一个原因就是店里的服务很好，虽然客人很多，可是招待的服务员都很有笑容。还有店里的环境也很好，清洁舒服，wifi很顺畅，哈哈哈！我们请服务员帮我们拍大合照，我们做先锋，过后每一桌也有这样的要求了。不过店家也征求我们的同意帮我们拍了照片放上网，这一天的客人很多都庆祝父亲节啊！另外要提的是这里的厨师只有一个，所以出菜的次序有点乱，就像我们肉都出完了再出青菜。不过我觉得以那么多人来说他的速度算很快了，如果要吃潮州卤鸭的话也必须提早预订，不然还真的要等很久。

Update on 17 December 2015: A friend of mine is in Melaka this weekend and he tells me that the restaurant has moved to new premises at No. 42 & 44, Jalan KPKS 1, Ko,pleas Perniagaan Kota Syahbandar, Melaka 75200, Malaysia.

And finally Orh Nee (yam paste) dessert which was another signature dish. The yam paste was cooked perfectly, very creamy and smooth and not too sweet. And even better complemented with steamed pumpkin and ginko. A must-try dish here! They even sell convenient packs for this.

This is the place to go if you’re digging for some good teochew food in Malacca. It’s quite hidden and it probably is not among the top few places to go. Malacca’s well known for Chicken rice ball, satay celup, gula melaka cendol etc but for teo chew food, maybe not. But somehow, I love the food here, especially the Yam dessert and Oyster Noodle.
