Filipino market located at the central of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It overlooks the ocean is commonly known as Pasar Besar (Central Market), Pasar Filipino is placed with fish, fruits, vegetables, and also handicrafts. This market made up of hundreds of tiny stores, is undoubtedly the best place to shop for souvenirs, seafood, and street food. The price of the seafood here is unbelievably reasonably affordable. With RM50 you can eat and shop until you drop.
Grouper fish was fresh and the natural aromatic taste was fully preserved with the natural steam. Scallops cooked in kam heong style and ginger clams were delicious too.

Among all the islands near to Kota Kinabalu City (KK), Sapi Island (Pulau Sapi) wins the most votes as the favorite of tourists. Not only it offers more nature experience, the new activities such as Coral Flyer (longest island to island zipline in the world) make this little island more exciting.
The market is in the heart of downtown Kota Kinabalu so most tourists will be hanging out nearby. While the market may not have many items of interest for tourists, it is a great place to soak up the local culture and experience a traditional Sabahan market. If it’s inconvenient to be in the area on a Sunday morning, you can safely skip the Gaya Street Sunday Market. Most likely, you won’t buy anything and it’ll take you less than an hour to see all the stalls.

Bukit Kopungit Hiking Trail is one of Kota Kinabalu hiking trails that are very easy to explore. It is also a favorite spot for airplane watchers to see closeup of planes taking off from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, just by the side of the hill. Other than that, multiple tunnels believed to be dug by Japanese soldiers during World War II were discovered around the area. Here is the guide to find them!
Being the nearest island to Kota Kinabalu, Mamutik Island gives a perfect view of the city besides offering a great snorkeling & scuba diving experience.
At the north of Mamutik is a forested ridge. If you have 20 minutes to spare, you may walk its 385-Meter jungle trail. There are a lot of mosquitoes so insect repellent is a must.
You shouldn’t miss the Api Api Night Food Market on Gaya Street if you’re in Kota Kinabalu on a Friday or Saturday night. We went to the market twice during our stay in KK because there was so much to eat. It’s also a much more interesting dinner option than the restaurants around. There’s a huge variety of drinks and freshly made local cuisine that visitors are sure to find something that will get their mouths watering.
Not to be confused with Bukit Botak in Puncak Alam, there is also another Botak (Malay word for bald) Hill in Sabah with various names. Some also call it Bukit Gundul (Indonesian word for bald) or Bukit Gentisan (name of the nearby village).
What did I do for my birthday this year…. Hahaha… I spent the day on JSK Borneo Reef which is the largest reef activity pontoon in South East Asia with a couple of my closest friends….
Located near Gaya street, Signal Hill Observatory Tower is the highest point in Kota Kinabalu. It is a place visitors like to stop by during the evening to observe the sunset. One can drive straight to the observatory tower, or take a flight of stairs from the bottom to the top.

Tun Fuad Stephens Park, a popular park for joggers in Kota Kinabalu, is also a place to go for a short casual hike. The hill, called Bukit Padang, is located within the park area. There are multiple hiking trails to reach Bukit Padang peak.
Other than their functions as research centers and control posts, these substations are also gateways to the historic Salt Trail. It was, and still is, a trade route used by the villagers from the remote villages in the forest, accessible only by foot, to travel out to the towns. The 35.8km Salt Trail requires at least 3-4 days of jungle trekking, from Inobong to Malungung (Tikolod), or vice versa.
