At Streat Thai, they dub it ‘Tom Yum Wow’. H&I got a pot for two to share. (RM42.90). Aside from crab meat sticks and chicken balls, the mix was also topped with fried chicken wings which still retained a slight crispiness even after soaking in the soup. Served separately were fried fish fillets which were nice and moist. Salty, crispy, springy, savoury – what more can one ask for?

Second time here, nowadays always have to book ahead with deposit. This time the food is less satisfying than the last visit: the quail seems less marinated and less crispy, chicken meat a bit bland though the stock is nice, and seafood fish is quite nice. House wine at RM55 for 250ml is pretty good. Next time should try the beef steak. I like dipping the sourdough into the stock, irresistible.

I only had eyes, however, for the Cheezy Meltdown (RM19). The sandwich was all I had hoped for – cheesy goodness with a good balance of textures. The cheese tasted a lot like the KFC cheese sauce, and got a little overwhelming after a while. Even one slice was very filling. If you’re a small eater, I suggest getting this to share.

While we were there we also tried their signature Cheezy Meltdown (RM18) which tasted pretty good thanks to the overflowing cheese sauce. This sandwich is 100% vegetarian as it comes with a hash brown patty. If you are not a fan of sandwiches you can choose plenty of other items in their extensive menu.

I notice a new item on the menu of Go Noodle so I ordered it to try. A bowl of Sui Gao (dumpling Beijing style) in soup at MYR 14.50++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 16.82 nett). The skin is thick so I like it. The minced pork and chives fillings reminded me of the fillings of Siew Long Bao sold by Esquire Kitchen. There are about 8 dumplings in one bowl. I recommended this dish to my family and they like it too because they like Beijing style dumplings.

The signature rice noodles with meatball, which according to others, the meatball has a soupy and juicy filling, which will burst in your mouth. I started with having a sip of its soup and it did not disappoint me. The soup, which was made from fish bone, was flavourful but refreshing at the same time. The rice noodles were very springy, well absorbed with the soup. While others may not like coriander, I was very pleased that coriander was given generously on the top of my bowl. Anyway, if you don't like it, you may opt it out by informing the waiter.

So there you go, finally I fixed my mind on La Vie En Rose (MYR 17) despite I really wish to have another morsel along, but then worried can’t finish it as the tummy had just been carbo-loaded 5 minutes ago. A dainty rhapsody composed on the notes of lychee, raspberry rose chantilly, pastry cream, raspberry jam and sable breton. Indeed very catchy and boldly alluring especially with that red petal crowning on top and pate a choux dough filled up with velvet custard.

Yaki Buta Ramen - MYR 29 nett. We selected a single flavour broth which is black garlic broth and coriander spicy toppings for the pork belly. The broth is thick but not too thick so it was not cloying. The egg has the taste of bonito flakes so it is delicious. The ramen noodles texture is firm but soft enough and the portion is big. They also serve tsukemen which is ramen served with soup in a separate bowl.

Omu Hamburg Steak 24.90 But the omlette was too bland to provide any additional taste to the burger steak. The burger steak was all right, it tasted like just another frozen burger steak, it was pretty dry. The vegetables were so bland and raw that they totally dull the whole dish. I think the dish would have tasted so much better if they made the effort to fire grill those vege and give them an additional flavour to complement the dish. So this dish was a total fail in our opinion.

The scrambled egg is done to perfection here. Upon slicing it, the oval omelette unfurled its soft cooked egg curds. Cendol, 5.50 ringgit The Cendol here is awesome. I had a hard time deciding between the ice kacang and cendol as both these desserts are popular here but in the end, I opted for Cendol simply because it came with less ice. I wasn’t in the mood to dig through the mountain of ice that usually comes with Ice Kacang, so Cendol was a better option. This dish came with the usual ingredients – shaved ice + coconut milk + gula Melaka + red beans + green noodles. In my opinion, what makes this cendol different from many others out there is the amount ratio. All ingredient in the bowl came in almost the same amount, which meant that when what you have left is the flavored melted ice at the bottom, there would still be enough green noodles and red beans to eat. Usually, the shaved ice comes in a big portion, the other ingredients comes in limited quantity but not here, it was all in equal ratio. Tastewise – it was good, real good. I totally understand why Kwong Wah is always crowded. They do serve up good desserts.

The Ais Kacang (RM5.50) did not disappoint: the shaved ice was nice and fine, and it had a decent amount of ingredients to satiate one’s sweet tooth cravings. The fragrance of the coconut milk and thick, caramel-like sweetness of the gula melaka (palm sugar) bound everything together really well. Definitely hits the spot in hot weather!

As soon as our export grade Musang King durian arrived, I knew it was going to be bitter-ish. You could actually tell by spotting the bruise-like mark on the durian pulps. True enough, they tasted bitter-sweet and the depth of flavor was amazing and the ovrall quality is simply a class above than what we had previously. So the extra bucks were definitely worth it.

Whilst I liked the pickled cabbage soup, my heart resonated with joy as I saw the second pot of broth, containing a generous amount of pig offal. The peppery pig stomach soup is a must for me, It's actually Pork Stomach and Chicken. RM42.90 for this soup. Top up of soup is FOC, but top up of ingredients such as offal is obviously not free, but is priced reasonably. In any case, with so much other food, one would not be sticking to only the offal....or would one?

Pickled Cabbage Pork Belly Soup is their latest eddtion of soup base and it is my personal recommendation if you love sour vegetable soup base. @ RM48.90 It is a cabbage that had added salt and to pickle the cabbage (for 1 month) in a tight container huge glass jug. Love the soup aroma as it give you the hint of sour vegetable soup, wit mild hint of saltiness yet mix along with long hours of cooking pure pork bone broth, gives you a nice balance of aroma and taste in the soup. It is advisable to add one time of another round of soup. When it hits third round, the soup will be diluted or left only with pork bone base soup. You can order add on for the pickled cabbage to add on, as what we did below.

White Rabbit Bubble Tea, 13.90 ringgit Okay, if you want White Rabbit – that is exactly what you’d get here. It was potent. The bubble teas we usually come across are a tad or somewhere watery, right? Not this one though. Imagine peeling off them wrappers and taking tonnes of those white rabbit sweets, putting it onto a heating pan and heating it till it melt. Whatever liquid that comes from that is what is served to you. So yea, imagine that, it sure was potent. Thick, milky, sweet.

Har Jiong (Shrimp sauce) Chicken wings (3 per portion) at MYR 14+ (MYR 14.7 nett). I thought the chicken wings were marinated in Har Go which is Penang Shrimp Paste but after tasting the wings, it is not Har Go but Har Jiong because the taste is not as strong as the Penang Shrimp Paste. The wings were crispy amd juicy. I was pleasantly surprise to see some salad leaves and baby tomatoes accompanying the wings. The mayo dip provided is sourish sweet and a bit spicy.

You may have to spend around RM20 per pax for a meal here if you order their char siew separately by portion sizes. If you find the prices too steep, then go for a more reasonably priced plate of char siew rice. Though this place has been around for 7 years now, I don't know if the standard is still the same as when they first started (since this is my first visit) but it definitely has a place (in my books) among some of the top-notch char siew I've had over the years. We tend to eat at the same places or close to where we live and I'm only discovering some of these places since I started blogging about my food experiences among others. I guess I should have come sooner but better late than never, right? It'll be interesting to see what's in store at their new place.....new additions to the menu perhaps? I shall return! ^_^

There is no question about this restaurant. It is suitable for all ages. We all really satisfy with their food, environment and service. However, I do expect more on the sequence they serve the food especially on ala-carte meal (not omakase). How can you serve the soup in the end? Sweet Potato Rosti, 24 ringgit. Food was good. As soon as I knew Rosti was offered here, I decided to give it a go. How often do you see this particular dish served in a cafe and that too with an Asian twist to it – the kailan ? Not often, right? It tasted as yummy as it looked. Between the crispy chicken karaage + baby kailan + guacamole + sweet potato rosti, I was happily satisfied. The combination of items on the plate, the mix of flavors made for a yummy dish. It definitely was a fulfilling lunch.

Despite the small space the cafe is pretty cozy. There's varieties of breads, pastries and cakes on display but we didn't order any since we were there to try out their coffee.

My unagi rice bowl lunch set at MYR 16 nett. The Onsen Egg here is more like a soft boiled egg on the way to be a hard boiled egg but still with runny yolk so I took both eggs home and recooked them to be fully cooked with half of my rice. The pieces of unagi are a bit on the thin side but acceptable.

The Unagi and Cucumber was delicious. However, do you notice the size of the Unagi? Way too small. There was quite a bit of rice in the bowl and after only 6 spoons, the Unagi was gone. Why laaaaa? Why? I want a bigger piece, please? The unagi + poached egg + rice + cucumber combo was very good. The distinct taste of the unagi with the soggy, moist, sticky combination of the egg and rice was something I enjoyed a whole lot but even before I hit the ‘satisfied’ mode, the Unagi is gone. Howwwlaa like that?? That is why I had to order roast chicken as add on. There were still quite a bit of rice left and it needed some meat – the chicken was a good addition. It certainly dont compare to the Unagi but it makes a good substitute.

Overall, I find it weird for an authentic Thai restaurant can't even make their signature pineapple fried rice and Phad Thai right. However, surprisingly their ala-carte dishes such as the chicken and the soup are extremely good. It seems like they have two chefs preparing ala-carte order and lunch set meals. Otherwise, I cannot understand why the quality of the taste can this big contrast.

My portion: A few pieces of poppadom, 1 piece of deep fried tenggiri (mackerel) fish, 3 small prawns, banana leaf rice (small portion), default 3 vegetables dishes with a bit of each 5 types of curry gravy. A satisfying meal despite the curried radish being too salty (MYR 17.25 nett). I did not order a drink because I know I would be too full to eat and drink at one sitting.
