Hiap Hing Kopitiam was the original coffee shop business which was started in 1930 by grandfather in Penang under a big tree nearby the Jetty to serve the workers and business people who were working the Port.
During the Japanese Occupation, the Second World War in Malaysia, the Coffee Shop was relocated to 618-8 Jalan Pasar, Air Hitam, Penang.
Then in 1964, my father who was the eldest son in the family, decided to open a new branch and named under Beng Chin Garden Restaurant which situated at 617-H, Jalan Balik Pulau, Air Hitam, Penang.
Till today, both of these coffee shops are exits but the operation and management is run by my uncle and cousins.
In 1970, my father moved to Capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur to seek his fortune. He decides to venture a new business called “Hainanese Chicken Rice” stall at Jalan Klyne (near Jalan Silang) at the heart of Kuala Lumpur until 1977.
In 1977, my father was motivated to open his traditional Coffeeshop at Taman Midah Cheras and Jinjang.
In 1994, we have shifted to our premises at Taman Sri Selayang, Batu Caves, Selangor. Our coffee shop, Hiap Hing is famous for its traditional kaya toasted bread with butter, special Hainanese brewed coffee and fragrant brewed teas which patronage by of our regular customers. This business has been in the hand of Lee’s family for more than 80 years under 3 generations.

Hainanese Coffee & Toast @ Hiap Hing Kopitiam, Batu CavesHiap Hing coffee shop in Batu Caves is famous for their Hainanese drinks, ‘bao’ and toast. Last weekend, we dropped by for tea break and had a good time.
Although it was way past lunch hour and most of the food stalls have closed, customers were still streaming in for a cuppa. The operators are a friendly lot and will gladly chat with you about the origins of their coffee shop.
