Godmama is one of the popular dining places in Funan Mall. They are located on the 4th level and specialized in serving Modern Peranakan Food.
Everything was quite competent. The stock for the chap chye was excellent – thick, layered and full of hae bi or hae flavour. The ayam buak keluak was good too – pungent and fragrant.
Ayam Buah Keluak (19.9) was a tad oily, and the lack of colour reflected in lack in richness. Perhaps it did not have enough of the nut.
Godmama at Funan Mall serves Modern Peranakan food.
The highlight of the meal for me was the Nasi Ulam. I have never had this meal before but the classic Nyonya herb rice won me over with its melange of Peranakan classic herbs and spices. Could be a little dry and herb-y for some but I found it to be super tasty.
Consider going to Godmama for a good taste of Peranakan + modern brunch food - especially if it is cloudy enough to sit outside at their alfresco area.
For Peranakan food, the prices at Godmama are relatively accessible.
Pretty good chap chye they did. Broth has a clean prawn flavour.
Godmama may not have dived into the complexity of Peranakan cuisine, but it allows diners to have a glimpse of the flavours in a relatively more casual and fun manner.
Many of Godmama's main dishes can be enjoyed as part of their weekday executive set lunch, so do take advantage of the value pricing.
Loved the local flavours! Warm sweet sauce, soft airy pancakes with cold vanilla ice-cream was a good way to end the meal.
Overall it was an encouraging to see how creative the chef at Godmama can get.
