Gunung (Mount) Irau - the tallest peak in Cameron Highlands is located in one of the oldest forests in Malaysia.

Mount Irau Trip Report By Amir Che Of new friends and chance encounters Having been deprived of a hiking trip for a while now, I had been trying to look for people to follow me up a famous mountain here in Malaysia named Mt. Irau (Gunung = Mountain in Malay). I had…
Gunung Irau (Mount Irau) is located near Brinchang town in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. This mountain marks the border of two states, Pahang & Perak. At the highest point of 6,923ft or 2,110m, its rank fifteen highest mountain in Malaysia and ninth highest in Peninsular Malaysia.
At the 2,110m Gunung Irau peak and Brinchang Town is 2.35km away. Mount Irau is the 15th highest mountain in Malaysia. Mossy forest and fairyland, cold wind and misty clouds; are some of the characteristics at Irau. One must hike about three hours to reach Irau from the base of the mountain.
Merged the forest in Lord of the Rings and a Chocolate Factory and you’ll get Gunung Irau; truly mossy, misty and muddy! The hike up Mount Irau was amazing and mud-venturous and pretty tough one. It is 2110m (6900ft) making its summit the highest peak in Cameron Highland and the 15th tallest in Malaysia. Popular among local and international hikers, Gunung Irau consists of the fragile ecosystem of the ever famous Mossy Forest, a sight to behold.
I arrived at Brinchang police station at 7:10am after about 2 hours of drive from Kampar. This was the gathering place where all of the hikers from our group met. After all have arrived, our pack leader proceeded to file a police report as a safety precaution. Everybody was eager and ready, so at 8am sharp, we departed to Mt. Brinchang by a rented 4WD. At first, few of us weren’t very clear about the arrangement made, and were caught by surprise to see only one 4WD… for twelve of us! Not wanting to make a big deal of it, all happily jumped up into the trunk and off we went.
