Asari Hoiru Butter Yaki This mediocre looking dish was a gem! Immerse in an uplifting olfactory experience upon unveiling what's hidden underneath the aluminium foil. The soup was so fragrant we could almost felt it on our tongue. Taking a sip brought us to paradise. The clear soup was sweet, but not in an artificial manner, attributed by the freshness of the seafood, and ended with an interesting buttery taste, which was quite unexpected of any Japanese cuisine. One sip would definitely have you longing for more.
Kimi-Ya Japanese Restaurant has been around for almost 3 years. Serving delicious and authentic Japanese cuisine at an affordable price using the top ingredients whilst some are even flown in directly from Japan. Spacious restaurant which is perfect for a get together, or family gatherings in the private room.
The KIMI-YA Special Roll is also one of my favorite dish on that day. The rolls are made of avocado, omelette and cucumber roll with garlic mayonnaise sauce on seared tuna and black caviar topping. The avocado and cucumber roll brought out the flavor of the seared tuna and caviar very well and the savory taste from the garlic mayonnaise sauce pairs nicely with the sweetness of the avocado. I would definitely order this again next time.
One of the signature dishes here is the Wagyu Steak (120g). The best way to savour this premium cut is to just have it pan-grilled and our preferred done-ness is “medium” to “medium-rare”. Just look at that superb marbling and those juicy tender slices are to die for! They practically melt in the mouth.
Let’s start with Kimi-Ya’s monthly specials. If you hurry, you may still be able to catch their June-July promotion of Hokkaido Uni. Freshly air-flown from Japan, the sea urchin is unbeatable at RM38 a portion. Uni fans, make your way there now for this sweet indulgence!
Among my favourite for the upcoming promotion is the Kagoshima Wagyu (120 grams). These prized cuts are air flown in from Japan. Kimi-Ya Japanese Restaurant used to serving the Australian Wagyu Beef at its outlet but have now switched to serve the Japanese Wagyu for its patron to enjoy the quality, texture and taste which is much better although a little pricier.
Another noteworthy seafood dish to try was the Taraba Gani - Grilled King Crab with Salt. For me, seafood is always best served and cooked either grilled or steamed in its natural juices. So Chef Khim serves the Taraba Gani grilled over high heat and served it hot from the pan. The end result was tender and succulent - super fresh white King crab meat, good to the last morsel.
Another great dish for sharing portion is their Ribeye Shabu Shabu. Love the shoyu sauce that they add in it, and the clarity of the soup. Sweet and fragrant, dipping along with finely cut thin slice ribeye is just nice
Verdict: 1. If you are looking for a mid-range Japanese restaurant with good quality and is more wallet-friendly, then Kimi-ya is wroth a visit. 2. Reasons to visit: Good quality ingredients, interesting interpretation of Japanese flavours and fine modern dining ambiance. 3. Recommended: Tara Shirako, Zaru Inaniwa Udon
Recommended MUST ORDER: Boran Ebi Sushi, Salmon Belly Sushi, Joy Unagi Sushi

Being a Japanese Cuisine fan, able to enjoy sumptuous and authentic Japanese Cuisine in Malaysia is a really enjoyable and happy moment! Although I do not recognize all the name of the sashimi they serve, for me a fresh and thick slice of sashimi is like the heavenly taste already. That just shows how much I really love sashimi. The days of traveling and eating in Tokyo has been the days I miss the most. I am really happy that I found out a Japanese Restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food, not only that the price is affordable but also the sashimi and the sushi they serve is way too yummy and fresh!
