The Bouillabaisse, the iconic Marseilles seafood soup, is chockful of goodies, tiger prawns, mullet, and the soup, which is more bisque like than clear (unlike the usual Marseilles ones), is so good that left all of us wanting more. Now, the main surprise was the breads, because well, it's bread, and at this stage of the meal, no one wants more bread, BUT one per chance bite into that crusty piece of goodness, it didn't take long before all of it was gone.
Reasons to visit Chez Gaston, French Bistro Bangsar: Charcuterie goodies to share with friends, a beautiful twist on the Salad Nicoise, and meaty mains that come with sauces prepared by the hands of an expert. Of course, same room for dessert.
One of our most favorite salad with goat cheese. Tossed salad with vinaigrette and pork bacon bits. Served along with baked matured goat cheese on baguette stick topped with honey and black pepper.
Next, we had a dish from the Grill menu; It is the Cuisse de poulet grille fromagerie (RM36.00) - a grilled chicken chop which is served with slow-cooked capsicums and topped with a piece of Goat Cheese with Honey and coarse black pepper. The result is you get a sweet taste from the honey and when eaten with the savoury cheese will intrigue your tastebud. This dish is a hate it or like it dish. For me, I personally find it a very interesting combination of taste.
Those who love greens, this is one of my top recommendation. Salade de crottin de chevre @ RM 24 (s). Tossed salad with vinaigrette, pork bacon bits, and baked with matured goat cheese on baguette stick topped with honey and black pepper.
. For something a little richer, go for the classic Boeuf Bourguignon (RM48), soft Australian beef cheeks cooked for 8 hours in a thick red wine sauce. The beef cheeks was wonderfully gelatinous, tender and absolutely melts in your mouth. The mains are served with a side dish each, which differs everyday for variety.
Overall, it was a good dinner at Chez Gaston, the food was really delicious and affordably priced I have no complaints to that, my husband and I really enjoyed our time there and we can't wait to come back again with family and friends.
Duck confit RM45 The slow cooked duck leg cured in sea salt drizzled with creamy brandy sauce was served with individual sides dishes of baked potatoes and ratatouille. Slightly salty, the duck was meltingly tender and bold in flavour.
For our mains, we had wild boar stew and seabass “au safran”. The Wild Boar Stew, simmered for hours in red wine and black olives, yielded chunks of well-infused meat that fell off the bone!
Seabream Grenobloise (RM 46). We enjoyed the Seabream Grenobloise (RM 46). The flaky fillet is perfectly served with the lemon butter caper sauce. The meat comes simply flaky and moist. It is such a perfect indulgence for the day.
Beef Bourguignon RM48 Beef Bourguignon, our favourite in Chez Gaston KL. 8 hours slow-cooked beef cheek in red wine, yielding moist, extra tender meat well-flavoured with super-rich wine sauce! Definitely a worth getting classic French stew.
Reasons to visit Chez Gaston: Fabulous charcuterie board, with many items made in-house. Cheese imports from France. Desserts to die for. And Mains that bear the mark of a master saucier.
