There are 2 different options- Breakfast Set (Rm 15.90 per item) and Breakfast Menu (Rm 25.90 per item), all orders are entitled for the free-flow semi-buffet. Their French Toast was a mediocre dish, Baguette-alike bread was used in lieu of soft-fluffy bread, the outcome was a hard-chewy piece of French Toast sans the eggy aroma. The Honey was of ersatz quality, though we did not expect to see Maple Syrup here but the Honey was a tad too watery to our liking.

The F&B scene in Penang does not sound like it will be slowing down for the new year of 2017, there are quite a number of new restaurants to put on radar. Foodies may have noticed this eye-catchy building at the corner of Hutton Lane, right next to New World Park. The exterior of the restaurant is painted in orange color, with a few bright spotlights in action. The name "Green Bell" surely does not ring a bell... at least not for us. Green Bell has quite an extensive menu, offering a vast selection of Western-Fusion dishes, though most of them are priced reasonably, the dishes lacked the excitement when it comes to quality... as though it was just an ordinary restaurant in the neighborhood. Food-aside, the service on our visit was lackluster; for a few simple orders, it took them more than one hour to serve and the restaurant was not even half-full.

Brown Poodle Burger Platter (RM 19) is a creative creation of a vegetarian dish. It uses baked bagel (burger buns are available too) and have the meat patty replaced with crunchy soy patty, which we did not realise even. It it served along with cheese, fresh vegetables, tomato and pickles, then air fried seaweed fries on the side. Overall is not a bad choice, just we feel the sauce topping the burger a tad confusing.

ÉNFD is an abbreviation of 'Énfold'- pronounced as 'unfold' with a meaning of 'gather and envelop' people through good food. It runs like a private kitchen, though walk-ins are welcome, the dining space is limited and could only host no more than 15 diners at a time. The dining hall preserves the sense of heritage with minimal interior decor; probably meant to encourage and enhance camaraderie amongst diners. It is a space that one could really talk and engage with each other. On the menu, the list of magical offering is unique and creatively crafted by the team behind ÉNFD; with focus on using Herbs and Spices ('local flavors') to intermingle with international flavors. The conservatives will find the menu too playful and to me, this is the attitude in lacking especially in the culinary scene in Penang. The brunch menu is only available on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 am to 3 pm.

On the mains, we had both Pan Seared Norwegian Salmon and Australian Grain Fed Beef Tenderloin; the former one was safe choice with pretty simple and straight-forward flavors, the latter option on the other hand, was beyond amazing. It probably outshined the Salmon, the Tenderloin was melt-in-the-mouth tender. The red meat was carefully cooked to the right doneness with spot-on seasoning and a burst of delightful meat juice. This is definitely one of the best Beef around.

Possibly a new hangout space for your four-legged animal friends to mingle with their own species- Wag N Romp is a new pet cafe ensconced in an annex right next to an established Pet Center- Dogs R Us... along Kelawai Road. The cafe is fully air-conditioned and with a few friendly dogs roaming the cafe, this is indeed a comfortable space for dog lovers to pet their canine friends. On our visit, there were Golden Retriever, Corgi, Poodle etc; different dogs "on duty" on different days. Nigiri Sushi Sakura, a sushi platter that comes with raw fish slice over pressed vinegared rice is a real bargain with RM 38. We were greeted warmly by the staffs and the owner of the place and as we were led inside the restaurant, we were amazed by how well-groomed the interior are. EU Cuisine is in one of the heritage houses and the ceiling is so high that you could see the sky and also enjoy the feel of being inside one of the pre-war houses back in the 60s or 70s.

Lamb Shank (Rm 35.90) in its unadulterated best, EU Cuisine dishes out their Lamb Shank in a whole instead of tearing them down into bite-sized pieces. The well-braised beauty was served on a bed of Mashed Potato and drenched in Chef's home-made Raisin-sauce. EU Cuisine's rendition of Lamb Shank is slightly more unique than its contenders. The meat was fall-apart tender and well-seasoned with flavors. The Raisin-sauce has an indelible sweetness but it dovetailed perfectly with the meat. The Mashed, on the other hand, was well-executed as well. Carrots were added to the Mashed Potato, to impart a vegetable-sweetness to the carbs. The Lamb Shank comes in a hearty portion, which makes it a value-for-money order.

The facade might not look promising but behind the door is a Chinese restaurant serving home-styled dishes and an array of premium Chinese Tea. Tea Hall (堂茶茶艺馆) is a time-honored restaurant that has been around for years... most of its businesses are by referral, the place sees constant gathering by a group of Chinese Tea-aficionados. A Maze, the brain child of Chef Wei, is a rather small restaurant, sitting only 8 pax per night, however this allows for a rather intimate affair as you will be seated Chef side as he guides you along course by course. Located in the heart of George Town, Penang. Serving Alternative Cuisine Chef Wei draws inspiration from the vibrant backdrop of the island he resides in, from it’s rich heritage and culture to the interesting produces that are found in and around this area, working with the seasons, a new course of meal is served every month. Pulling apart, reconstituting, reinterpreting, reinventing and innovating, A Maze’s ambitions are to break expectations, challenge conventions and leave you lost in wonderment on a culinary experience. There are no menus and no ordering here, we ask that you bring an open mind and an appetite, and allow Chef Wei to bring you on a journey a spoonful at a time.

Modernist cuisine or Molecular Gastronomy might not be new to the world but it's definitely something to range over, particularly for Penangites. Innovation is a critical element when it comes to a modernist kitchen- not only that the Chef must change the customary way one would prepare and present the dish but the Chef must bring a change to how diners experience the food either. Adventurous eaters can make their way to the small alley at Nagore Square (where all the bars and small little shops located); A.Maze occupies a strategic corner right next to the vacant land; from outside, the restaurant suggests a nary of information on what it is about to serve, inside... there are only 8 seats arranged snugly facing a small kitchen manned by the Chef-Owner Chef Wei. The very young and talented Chef honed his culinary skills from overseas and had had working experience in Michelin-starred restaurants. A.Maze serves "Omakase" which literally means "leave it to the Chef", the menu is not informed to diners and it relies entirely on "trust" but Chef Wei is not a one-trick pony- diners' sense of taste is not the only thing that changes here... the "Omakse" menu switches once a month and it depends on the seasonal offering. Thanks to Chef Wei, we had the opportunity to join him in his extraordinary gastronomical journey.

We did not try any of the Sze Chuan-influenced Hot Pot but a classic Herbal Cordyceps Chicken Pot instead. The Chicken (and Herbs) are cooked by order, within 15 minutes, the rich, flavorful Chicken Pot would be ready. The broth turns from milky white to yellow and diners waiting in anticipation will be caught in a whiff of alluring aroma of Chinese Herbs.
