Information & Tips about Mount Takao?
It is peak autumn at Mount Takao, just an hour out from Tokyo. This is a pretty touristy place, means good transport, plenty of food and restaurant.
There are some marvelous red leaves just in front of the station. We took the tram up, where the path are covered by red autumn trees. You could walk as well, but we are short on time.
It is another 30-60 minutes walk up the peak depending on which path you take. We took no 3.
The weather is perfect today, and we can see all the mountains. Fuji is slightly hidden with clouds at its top. Unpack our lunch from a bakery and enjoy the view. There is a restaurant up there as well.
We went back on route no 1 and pass by a temple. Just in time for the last chair lift decent at 4.30pm and the sky starts to get dark.

Very beautiful mountain just about one hour away from the Tokyo city center. The mountain was still full of autumn colors! To save some time (go down before sunset) we took the cable car up and chairlift down. The chairlift was fantastic!
Hiking Mount Takao (Tokyo) in Autumn As A Day Trip! • The Petite Wanderesshis day hike was much easier than I thought, coming from someone who’s not really into outdoor activities nor did much hiking before (I had a really tough time hiking Mt Batur in Bali). The different trails Mt Takao has meant you can choose according to your preferences and fitness levels. Each trail offers different experiences and sights, ranging from Biwa Waterfall (perhaps even a monk training under the waterfall if you’re lucky), to a monkey park, Yakuo-in Temple, etc. I enjoyed hiking through the quiet forests for Trail 3 – the silence through the forests was a welcome delight. That path also gently forced me to stay in the present moment and focus fully on my journey.
