Just last week, we left our shores and went across the causeway to check out a new mall and I must say that The Mall, Midvalley Southkey is one of our best new JB mall experience. Unlike the many other malls that see few stores opened, most of the stores at Midvalley were already opened and inviting…
One of the popular Bak Kut Teh eateries in Johor Bahru, Malaysia is Restoran Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh, sometimes known as “Sentosa Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh”...
Arriving sizzling hot in a claypot, the first thing you would notice is that it is bountiful of ingredients as the crispy beancurd skin and chopped spring onions act as a blanket over. ‘Open’ it up and take a sip of the rich, brownish-coloured soup. There is a lot going on in terms of its flavours, and surprisingly it is delicately herbal but not overly intense.
Perhaps the only thing that make them different is that they are offering Spanish Iberico Pork, however, if you want that, you have to make a booking in advance.
We definitely recommend stopping by KS Treasures for a good meal. We find the prices very affordable especially for the quality of the ingredients that they use. There is also definitely something for everyone with its extensive menu, so it is perfect for families and gatherings.
A glance at the Set Menus shows a price range from as low as RM788, RM988, RM1,188 to as high as RM4,688 for a table of 10 persons.
Overall, it’s clear that Chef Benson is extremely passionate and knowledgeable when it comes to Modern Chinese cuisine. The food plating is exquisite and filled with details, as expected of a fine dining establishment. More importantly, the taste and experience reflected that.
Fresh Yummy Fish Balls with your Yong Tau Foo?
I was delighted with Ah Koong's mee pok noodles. I was surprised actually. One of the reasons why I haven't been back to Ah Koong for a decade was because the generic noodles tended to be overcooked and the sauce tasted flat.
Ah Koong Fishball was a regular stopover. My dad and the kids like the comfortable environment and the fried fish cake.
I would’t say it was a letdown, but I felt that it was run-of-the-mill and not really worth the calories.
We always enjoyed our meals at Restoran Pekin. The ingredients are fresh and good quality. The execution is immaculate. The environment is comfortable and familiar. The service is earnest and sincere. Pricing is also very competitive. Pekin’s standards are famously consistent and I recommend them to…
As a finisher, both their coffee and lemon tea was absolutely good to end our meal. We also ordered their signature eggs tarts, but we were unlucky that time. Its all sold out. Overall, for me, I think based on the food that we ordered, I would rate it as 7.5 out of 10.
Overall, we love the food but the food service will need to be improved. Hopefully operations will be smoother during our next visit.
Recommended for you 👍 Now, instead in addition to donuts, kueh kueh, bread, banana cake etc you can tapau (take away) excellent Nam Heong egg tarts back home 😄
A typical tze-char eatery with simple decoration and functional furniture. Of course the things that caught our eyes were the photographs listing the chef recommendations. Definitely adding a few to the our order.
Memang semuanya sedap dan menyelerakan, terutamanya ayam goreng bersama kepingan halia rangup tu, rasanya sangat mabeles!! . Dan portionnya pun banyak untuk satu hidangan. Kami makan pun sampai kekenyangan tersandar perut hahahaha.
At Hop Sing, the Chinese New Year set menus bode well for Blessings (RM388 nett), Fortune (RM588 nett) and Prosperity (RM998 nett).
Hop Sing restaurant at Ponderosa Golf & Country Club is worth considering for your Chinese New Year celebration gatherings.
If I am in the area for bak kut teh, I would have their soft cartilage bones and their pig tails. I felt the pricing is competitive.
Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh is a Teo Chew kind of dishes. Compared to the Fujian kind of black meat bak kut teh, Soon Huat’s one has a lighter taste and less greasy. If you are a consumer who practices the healthy eating culture, we believe that this Teo Chew kind of bak kut teh will definitely suit your appetite.
Oriental Kopi - a coffee chain in Malaysia, famous for its egg tarts, that I didn’t know of until my sister posted about it on her Facebook ...
Meng Meng Roasted Duck’s signature duck was delicious, but the roasted honey pork stole the limelight with its golden brown caramelisation and tender meat.
Nice ambiance. Good service. Reasonable prices (especially the roasts).
The Quivo Weekend Brunch is served from 12pm to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, priced at RM75 per person and RM38 per child aged between six and 12. Prices do not include 10% service charge and Government taxes.
Eating a plant-based diet in Johor Bahru can be a challenge at times as Malaysians (and Singaporeans) love their meat, so we are glad to find another cafe to add to our list of vegan-friendly places.
It tastes good, feels satisfying and felt good for our body and wallet too as prices are reasonable for what we are getting.

Nenek. serving a fusion of Malaysian and Balinese cuisine. All of their recipes are over 40 years old and all dishes are made fresh every single day.
Overall, the food at Kimdo is not fancy and more like a local zi char hangout place. It might not be the most popular stall for Singaporeans as the prices have increased over the year and the parking availability is terrible, we like going to Kimdo for its fuss-free food and the BBQ and the convenience of travelling to this area
I love barbecued food and while it can be from any cuisine; I do have a special liking for Korean BBQ, given their more flavorful marination...
I am glad that I can have a combination of my favourite cut (pig tail) and soft ribs (number 2 favourite) together.
Once you start eating, you can’t stop. The table was silent from talking; you can only hear spoon scooping for more bak kut teh soup, nom nom nom on the pig trotters and Mmmm…
Ah Lee Taiping Famous Kuih is also well known for their meat dumplings 肉粽 - shall check these out next time (Many readers asked me where to get good bak chang in JB).
Fei Fei Crab offers other seafood / zi char type dishes besides their signature crabs. I normally go for their prime rib, vegetable and tofu dishes.
