Experience the vibrancy of the Lunar New Year at the CNY Night Market 新春夜市! From December 28th, 2023, to February 8th, 2024, immerse yourself in festivities every evening from 6 PM to midnight
One of the standout locations for this celebration is the 北海新笆觀音亭斗母宮 (Rumah Berhala Guan Yin Ting Dou Mu Gong), a place where traditions come alive. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by a mesmerizing array of colors, sights, and sounds.
The contemporary design of the shop with classic bak kut teh recipe, this made Lao San Dong outstanding from the rest. Packed with herbs where once sitting at the dinning area of the shop, you can smell the strong aroma is also one of the signatures of Lao San Dong.

Mango Sago with Glutinous Rice, a refreshing Mango puree served with a dash of Coconut Cream, Sago, Glutinous Rice and juicy Pomelo pulps. The combination speaks for itself and what we enjoyed about the dessert was the well-balanced sweetness
There are 3 compelling factors that made us had an enjoyable late dinner here: a) Relatively affordable price for Bak Kut Teh (RM 10/pax) b) Good flavour - Mild herb taste though it was a tad salty. c) A lot of ingredients in the pot of Bak Kut Teh - pick and customize your own without additional cost.
The Koay Teow Theng (RM 4) is soothing and nice in taste. It was seasoned nicely and comes with slices of meat and fish balls.
I do like the Char Koey Teow, (that opens from around 2pm till around 8pm or Sold off) here, which is one of the 3 stalls around (the other open later), Poach Chicken with Rice or Koey Teow is another popular stall from 4pm and a recent find is the Poh Pieh, (Not Fried Penang Spring Rolls) which usually have a que. This Stall opens after 7pm . Other Stalls offering a verity of Penang Favorites can be found. As they take turns for their Off Day, you can be sure there will be stalls open dail here.
When we reached here around 2 pm, there are many customers already but we still manage to find a table. This place not only selling laksa but other Penang food such as cendol / ice kacang, chai kuey and fish balls.
Ah Leong's signature Prawn Cracker (Rm 0.40) was simply amazing. The shattering crispiness of the Crackers can be addictive and deep fried food lovers will struggle to stop at one. To enjoy the Prawn Cracker, you can either dip it into the broth or to enjoy it with Chili Sauce.
