I tasted it and it sure swept me off my feet! There was this very strong taste of good quality traditional Foochow red wine and she certainly was very generous with the ginger – I absolutely enjoyed it, my new favourite, I must say and I sure would be making my way there again for more.

And now, the moment of truth – the rice! No, I’m afraid it was not lemak enough. I could detect the fragrance of the pandan but not the lemak-ness of the santan (coconut milk). All in all, I would say that I did enjoy eating it, mixed with the sambal and everything else but no, you sure would not catch me rushing back for more.

Well, I had this one…the other day and I shared the photograph on Facebook with the caption, “Simply the best!” My bad! I liked it so much that it just slipped my mind that I should say it was my favourite, it was very good…anything but “the best“.

I must say that it (char kway teow) was good…and would be something worth dropping by for.

I ordered the kampua mee kosong…and the pork balls soup…– the set costs only RM4.00 which I thought was relatively cheaper than other places where they usually charge RM6.00 for a set like this or to the cheapest, RM5.00. Both the noodles and the soup were good and I sure would not mind going for it again should I happen to be in the vicinity.

We also had our usual, the Sibu Foochow-style tofu soup with canned oysters…and they do it really well here – exactly the way it should be, very authentic and I could detect the fragrance and taste of the oysters in it. They do not add so much at some other places here and some would even add other ingredients like thin strips of Chinese cabbage, carrot and what not and that would affect the taste, not quite like the real thing.

I decided to try the lor mee (RM5.00)……which did not look all that enticing but I was quite impressed when I tried it…The gravy was quite thick though it could have been just a little bit thicker and it could do with a slightly stronger cinnamon/five spice powder fragrance and I did not see any tau cheo (fermented beans) in it either. It was pretty close like the ones I used to enjoy a long long time ago but I have not found any quite the same since. It used to be a bit sweet but actually, I was fine with it not being so sweet and I liked how the poached egg was perfectly done – the yolk was soft and runny and on the whole, I would say it was good and I sure wouldn’t mind going for it again should I happen to be in the vicinity.
