I had the ayam penyet nasi goreng…which was all right. I particularly liked the fried rice…but they seemed kind of stingy with the sambal now – they used to give a lot more.
I asked my girl if she wanted pecel lele for dinner and she said yes so we dropped by the place and that was what she had (RM7.50)…but to our disappointment, the rice was not wrapped in banana leaf… steamed. That is the main draw when it comes to the nasi ayam penyet here, the very thing that puts theirs a head above the rest. Thankfully, other than that, the rest of what my girl had was fine.
This time around, I had the nasi ayam penyet (RM7.50)… The slab of chicken thigh……appeared rather small but it was all right – very nicely done, not hard and dry and actually, that was quite enough for a very nice meal though personally, I do feel that I enjoy their pecel lele (ikan keli/catfish) more. I think I will just stick to that the next time I drop by here again.
My missus had that (nasi campur)…that day and the total came up to a whooping RM6.00! However, considering that the asam fish (with a whole lot of vegetables added) was RM2.50 a piece and the egg was RM1.00 or RM1.50, leaving around RM2.00 or 2.50 for the rice and the daun ubi masak lemak (tapioca leaves cooked in santan/coconut milk), it more or less adds up to that amount. She enjoyed what she had picked – in fact, the fish and the tapioca leaves were so good that we even tapao-ed some home for dinner.
I thought the roti canai kosong (RM1.30)…was really good with its thin, crispy layers and nice fragrance and the dhal dip was thick and rich, very much to my liking.
I thought the ikan keli (catfish)…looked rather skinny but thankfully, it was sweet and lemak enough. Probably these are not the farmed ones which are not as nice even though they can be quite big at times – ikan keli that is too big may not be good and may be what we call in Hokkien lo ko. The texture is kind of tough or rubbery and not at all palatable.
