Soon Lee Porridge specializes in Hainanese porridge and offers just three options on their menu. Hainanese porridge is often grainier and thicker than Cantonese or Teochew porridge.
Soon Lee Porridge serves up tasty bowls of porridge at wallet-friendly prices, and the long queues and waiting times at any time of the day are a testament to that.
We tried a bowl of porridge without the egg, and I must say that it had more flavour.
I didn't dislike it but I did feel it had too much sugar.
All in all the food was pretty decent but the price leans towards the steep side.

But the best pay attention to how each ingredient is prepared.
It’s definitely heartening seeing young hawkers take up the wok and dedicate their time and efforts to dishing out good ol’ hawker favourites.
Carrot cake here seems to have gotten better. Some charred crispiness with a good amount of crisp chye poh and garlic fragrance mixed in. Not overly black and sweet.
The fish soup was really flavourful and layered, with savouriness and hints of sourness, and fresh sliced fish and crispy fried fish.
The Fish, commonly used Snakeheads is so firm and smooth! Look how thick each layering is on its cross-section.
1 review of Song Fish Soup "One of the best fish soup I have ever eaten. By the time I was in the queue at 7:20pm, they have sold out everything except the fried fish and thick bee hoon. They helped to prevent customers from wasting time by…
The dessert was a pleasant surprise. We had half expected a token dessert to convert the steak into a “meal set”.
If you love nostalgic taste of a good bowl of Wanton Mee, you should give Boon Kee Wanton Noodle a try.
This is one of the popular stalls in this food centre.
Sheng Yi Fa Lor Mee stall is a stone throw away from Clementi Bus Interchange and besides the popular vegetarian stall in the same coffeeshop, they are known to serve a good bowl of local mee base on words of mouth.
Why I like Sheng Yi Fa's lor mee is because of its gravy. Unlike other stalls which is starchy and gooey, their version is more like a drinkable braising sauce, packet with depth and robustness.
While the spiciness of the curried potato is on point without being overly spicy or mild, I find the texture leans more on the mushy side. If only they mixed in some firmer potato cubes for a contrasting texture.
Fong’s Dee Curry Puff only sells potato curry puffs, among some other fried goodies, such as goreng pisang and spring rolls.
Hainanese Curry Rice that is popular in Clementi. What’s your view?
This is the place to go for homely cooking, it has a motherly taste in it though simple but is so satisfying.
Xin Peng La Mian Xiao Long Bao offers a wide variety of handmade dishes ranging from Xiao Long Bao and Wantons to traditional hand-pulled La Mian.
King of Fried Rice appeared to have expanded rapidly in recent years; there’s even one near me at Wisteria Mall in Yishun and while I was i...
We preferred the char siew rice set. The char siew was not fatty and had an interesting taste which reminded us of lup cheong (dried preserved Chinese sausages).
Unfortunately, around March, Jackey might close his shop as there was an issue with investors pulling out recently. When the time comes, he will be accepting orders on his website. Hopefully, when he gets the situation fixed, he will be opening his cafe again in the same area!
Check out their other flavours if you’re in Clementi – think Hojicha, Rose and even Espresso Banana!
We would like to congratulate the folks behind One Stone Three Birds on their opening, and wish them all the best in what is to come in the future!
Despite the misgiving about the soup (which was still tasty; just not as good compared to the other two i had before), it's still worth it as a satisfying meal for me!
Overall, the Thai Dishes did not disappoint and my colleagues do agree so.
Before Korean barbeque took over the world by storm, the only barbeque I knew was the ones we do at holiday chalets and the highly-priced Japanese wagyu beef barbeque.
Overall, Yakinikuohji is worth a visit given the food quality and number of items that are available at such a price. This is a place suitable for big eaters and lovers of meat.
To be honest, the 3 dishes on the menu were the regulars all time favourite. The taste of Prawn Noodle was traditional with 4 small prawns in a bowl, lean meat, fishcakes. If you are looking for traditional Prawn Noodle taste with a decent prawn broth, this will fit the bill.
For the ultimate enjoyment, it is best to have your fritters on the spot while it is still hot but despite packing it home to eat more than an hour later, the batter remains crisp without being oily. This is evident in the paper bag that does not show any traces of grease.
I was surprised by how abnormally large these things were: they were the diameter of a softball.
