Dishes served in a clay pot always gets our attention. In this episode, we're trying out the famous Goon Wah XO Fish Head Noodles and Claypot Loh Shu Fun. We went to the original restaurant in Kuchai Lama to experience the authentic flavours and environment. The other main attraction in this restaurant is their Guinness Stout Chicken Wings. Needless to say, we simply had to try them all.
The Lou See Fun noodles in claypot was also mild without the generous among of salt or soy sauce.
Restaurant Goon Wah XO Fish Head Noodle 冠华XO鱼头米 is one of a hidden gem in Kuchai Lama. Located slightly off from the main area or directly opposite KFC drive thru is a place where you would want to consider to pay a visit.
Steamed sour fish @ RM 45. Quite big for it size, sourish enough and the heat of spicy hits you at the end. Just perfect. Fish meat is fresh too.
Recently, i found a buzz worthy spots to get your seafood fix with scrumptious food and reasonable price. Located at Kuchai Lama, Best BB Restaurant offers fresh seafoods, and provides a comfortable, friendly atmosphere to its customers. As you walk into Best BB Restaurant, you are greeted by the sight of traditional red tablecloths, giving you the feel of a traditional Chinese restaurant.
Hey! Where do you usually get your seafood fix? If ambiance is not your priority, you should really check out Best BB Restaurant in Kuchai Lama. The restaurant has been around for quite some time, boasts a fair share of regular customers well known for its unpretentious, great value and amazing foods. Another plus point was the ample parking available nearby.
Overall, the food here is good. The popular food here is their noodles and the duck noodles is something we might order next time. Thai Tae Restaurant offers simple Thai food and they are tummy warming. Most of their customers are Thai and they are the regular customers. If you like Tom Yum noodles, do visit Thai Tae restaurant in Kuchai Lama. They are closed on Wednesdays and open from 11.30 am to 9.30pm.
We noticed the table next to us has additional fried fish slices in their fish head noodle so we enquired about it and was told that we could add the fish for an additional MYR5 to the MYR17 for a small portion of fish head noodle so we did just that at this Soon Lei eatery.
[Pork-free] The last time we past-wa past-wa’ed here was before MCO. While famous for their fuwa fuwa soufflé pancakes, we love the pastas here as well! The Smoked Duck Aglio E Olio (RM22) was excellent – perfectly tossed spaghetti with full-on garlicky flavours and smoky, tender duck bits.
It’s SO FUWA’FY, we could die! We ventured to Neighbour’s Coffee Bar in Happy Garden for their famous fuwa fuwa soufflé pancakes and pastas.

Curry Fish Head @ RM 28. For Dai Chow, always good to have one curry gravy dishes. Not too coconut milk flavour, yet it does goes well with white rice. Fish head is also fresh.

A fairly new restaurant in Happy Garden.
This dish we ordered because we loveeeee mozzarella. It comes with 3 pieces of deep fried mozzarella sticks. In between the cheese and the fried breaded outer later, they’ ve inserted pieces of pork bacon. Yummm!! Sooo delicious. The taste of gooey cheese and pork bacon was simply divine. If only the dish came with more than 3 pieces of cheese sticks, i’d be in heaven ..oh well, one can dream.

I have always thought that Hunan and Sze Chuan food is the same. That got me wrong as Hunan Cuisine is only slightly near to Sze Chuan cuisine where they serve hot and spicy flavour in their dishes. To enjoy one of a authenticity Hunan Food, Restaurant De Hunan (湖南湘菜馆) at Kuchai Lama is a well known place to many folks as they have been well known for ages.
Among some of the must-try are signature dishes like the Hot and Spicy Steamed Fish Head in Hunan Specialty Style (which we missed cos it was sold out by dinner time! Imagine the crowd on a weekday!), sizzling skewered lamb and the Sauteed Cabbage with Dried Chilli. Boasting intense flavours & exquisite tastes, Restaurant De Hunan’s extensive menu of over a hundred dishes did wow us all.
Exactly the same menu and Dim Sum choices, and items sampled today were above average. My opinion, quite dependable Dim Sum location, so far!
Overall, we had a good meal at Jin Xuan Hong Kong Dim Sum Restaurant and are quite happy with our dim sum.
Most of the hawkers are managed by locals, perhaps except for the Gungzhou Cheong Fun!
The Mutton Curry Noodles was good. I enjoyed the curry very much and it was good to even go with rice. However, I felt that the mutton itself was overdone and it ended up being too soft. Otherwise, it was a good dish. Do be careful with the Sambal as it is quite spicy. For me, it was an experience that was worth trying once.
My pick would be their Noodle, Dumpling and Meatball. * Must try in the Old Sichuan Steamboat.

Pork wine noodles at MYR 8.50 nett. The wine is served separately in a small bowl. The porky parts such as liver and kidney have acceptable taste but the broth is just clear soup, not pork bone broth. It even has choy poh (pickled vegetable) in it so I wouldn't call this pork noodles but clear soup noodles with porky parts (ching tong).
Verdict: The Geng Chow Bing which is the pull factor of our visit was good and I highly recommend the Kaya Butter Croissant. Do come here earlier if you wanna try the Nasi Lemak as it was sold out during our visit.

2 rolls of chee cheong fun (rice noodles) wraps at MYR 2.50 nett each. A closer look at the fillings of julienned jicama, carrots and wood ear fungus. The chee cheong fun is soft and smooth so these rolls are tasty!
Roast pork and BBQ pork turns out to be good too, where they are slightly above avreage than many chicken rice stall. Indeed it was a good recommendations and worth to come back again as price for this meal for 3 pax is estimated RM 45 which we think is pretty decent.
Verdict : The ambiance and the food taste deserved many thumbs up. It is also a very clean restaurant, and spacious. A well suited place for gatherings, to those who enjoys Thai food.

Heard about this place alot when I was still with my ex company and since working around this area, decided to come back to give it a try. Kum Kee Charcoal Roast Pork is actually famous for their roast pork in this neighborhood that operates in this Kedai Kopi & Makanan Mooi Mooi at Taman Continental or off Kuchai Lama. Now they have expended another lot with the red signage, with better seating capacity and cleaner.
