Gobo Upstairs however is smart enough not to confine the love celebrations to a single day, (which also happens to be too near to Chinese New Year, although admittedly not the whole world is Chinese), so their Valentine's menu is available from 7-14th, which means you can buy roses earlier to celebrate without paying an arm and a leg. For the meat lovers, THIRTY8 offers Australian 'Diamantina' Red Wagyu or Black Angus Beef from Stanbroke Farms. We had the rib eye (350g, marbling score 6 - RM350), which was thoughtfully sliced for sharing. Beautifully tender, melt-in-the-mouth and flavorful meat, we certainly enjoyed this and went straight to steak heaven. So so good! I'm also eyeing the Tomahawk for my next visit, very reasonably priced at RM350 for 900g.

Taste:8/10(Good. The lunch set food overall is good but not outstanding. Food presentation were good. The fried fish is a bit dry in the sweet fish bun and the taste is mostly enhanced by mayonnaise. The steamed bun however were perfect as its soft and light. The Yuzukosho tamarind chicken main dish was slightly overcooked and caused the meat to be a bit harder. Taste wise, the chicken is good. I like the dessert of lychee, mango and panna cotta. The dessert mixture taste were well executed and refreshing).

This is my favourite dish - braised wagyu beef cheek rolls with century eggs and pickled vegetable in Szechuan sauce at MYR 48++ (MYR 55.95 nett). I ate 3 rolls and my birthday friend ate 2 rolls. I like the taste of the beef and century eggs but find the sauce to be a bit overpowering.

On the other hand, Baby D's favorite was the Duck Spaghetti (RM28) with confit tomato and quinoa. Of course this ain't no ordinary pasta - the duck is braised with spices and wood ear fungus. It tastes just like the braised Hakka pork dish, only this is made with duck since the restaurant is pork-free. The quinoa gives extra texture to the dish and the tomatoes are slowly cooked with assam boi (and the result is amazing, a mini umami bomb).

There's also the melt-in-your-mouth, Malabar Style Mutton Curry. It's rich, spicy and mellow, an additive dish some will die for, drawing the most 'ooooohs and aaaaaaahs' from the table. Mutton is never an easy meat to cook, and most are not able to make it tender but Chef Sapna's Malabar Style Mutton Curry was absolutely tender and soft.

Given that each of us experiences wine in different manner, I can only suggest experiencing de Montal Armagnac for yourself. With the newer vintages starting at only RM 390 per bottle, it’s a great investment. The 1967 is of course a tad more expensive priced at RM 1050 – but I assure you, for the connoisseur, well worth that little extra. Available in the new year through Nam Lee Cheong (Bukit Bintang) who are exclusively bringing Armagnac de Montal into Malaysia. Looking forward to getting my very own bottle very soon!

Though the service wasn't poor, it wasn't very attentive. Though the food wasn't half bad, it didn't deliver in every aspect. Though prices were reasonable, they weren't matched by portion sizes. Even with a starter and a main each, you'd still come out not fully satiated as portions just weren't hearty enough (in the end, we had to go elsewhere to get something to snack on). With food taste that didn't impress enough, coupled with smallish portions for the price paid and where service could be better, it came down to just little things that weren't done right that makes me wonder if I'd ever return to This Establishment! :'(
