I was back at Bunch, PJ when my friends wanted to have lunch there. My order of salmon set with iced coffee at MYR 25 nett. Now they accept cash unlike the previous time I was there. I think they realize that many people would not eat there like me the previous time if cash is not accepted.

I went for the Hoisin Smoked Duck Rice Roll (RM16), which came in a generous portion with Japanese rice, tempura mushroom and onsen egg. Considering the price vs portion, it was pretty value for money! The duck had a sweet flavour which was closer to a teriyaki glaze, and the meat was tender but not gamey. Loved nibbling on the flavourful extra layer of duck fat on the top ! The tempura mushrooms weren’t greasy and gave the dish a crispy element. Egg was perfectly poached. All in all, a solid rice bowl.

There is a "cool look" to both the interior and exterior of Garage 51, with an mordernist and industrial deco, coupled with reburbished huge oil drums as seats at the entrance, plus the huge mural painting on the big wall outside; you can't miss it. And definitely serves up a good Latte!

Grilled Three-cheese Sub, 16 ringgit. This was really, really yummy! I could not open half of the croissant up without making it all messy. the melted cheese inside acted like a glue, difficult to get through it. So, this dish comes with two medium sized croissants. The filling inside is made up of three types of cheese – Mozzarella + Cheddar + Parmesan. Imagines mixing all three of those , you would have yourself a gooey pile of melted, creamy cheese and with a little help from mayonnaise, which provides a sweetish flavor, it all combined to make this one delicious calorie overload but -so-worth-it dish.

Antipodean Cafe takes its very soul from the cafes that have gone before it, not only in the Antipodes, but also in Europe. The goal is to create a meeting place, a central spot where expatriates and locals can meet, chat, gossip, romance and chill out over a cup of excellent coffee and a place of good tucker. Other than providing a great cafe experience, we took it upon us to ensure the cafe culture will continue to flourish with the times.

The bubble teas we usually come across are a tad or somewhere watery, right? Not this one though. I kid you not, we literally slurped everything and left the bowl empty at the end of it all – that was how yummy it tasted. In this bowl, you would taste everything they are known for – their curry me and their home made balls. A bowl filled with delicious, thick flavorful gravy, soft chewy mee hoon, generous portions of loh bak and 2 big fish balls. I can see now why their home made balls are popular, it was tasty and chewy, you’d taste meat from your first bite all the way through to your last bite. Very little to no flour used. I was very impressed.

The sausages prove juicy & easy to enjoy - two of us easily finished five hot dogs (though we likely left behind some bread). Note however that the infusion of elements like cinnamon may turn out to be more subtle than expected, supplying nuanced dimensions of flavour instead of knock-out dynamics. There's potential for slow-burning pleasure, but probably no fireworks.

Paneer Burger, 14.90 ringgit This was simply because we both loveeee paneer – cottage cheese and paneer served this way, in a burger? We just had to give it a go, too curious to say no, lol. It was pretty good. The burger buns itself was crispy and a lil sweet, which complimented the paneer itself, which basically tasted as paneer usually would. Good thing that their paneer patty was not too thin or else we would not have been able to taste much. Here, it was just right. I liked this dish very much. I’d order it again too.

PORK RIBS (HALF RM30/ FULL RM56) Sanbanto pork, Kicap Manis Glaze The flesh was tender and juicy, and it was a joy to eat. We adore how the moisture was retained in the flesh, makes detaching the flesh from the bones an easy task. We also especially love the taste with a drizzle of the lime juice. It balances out the sweet caramelized coating of the flesh. Normally ribs can get a little cloying for me due to its high fats content, but I seemed to be enjoying this quite a lot, probably due to its sour-y appetising taste from the lime juice.

The cafe’s signature is their grilled chicken chop with coffee sauce. It may sound like an odd combination, but the sauce has a nice coffee aroma to it and a slightly bitter tang which cuts through the creaminess and binds all the flavours together. Piggie Pesto, 29 ringgit. This was good. It was a classic pesto pasta with smoked pork bacon and pork croutons. A lil dryer than the pesto pastas I usually have and with a whole lot lesser pesto sauce but it was nevertheless tasty. Oyakodon Ricebowl, 18 ringgit Between the rice bowl and the noodles, I was in love with this particular rice bowl. I am a fan of caramelized onion and this dish came with it, in a generous portion. It was da bomb. The egg resembled a plain omelette – fluffy and buttery. Underneath the bed of egg, there was a chicken fillet and sticky, gooey Japanese rice. Usually I like my rice bowls with plenty of gravy which was not the case here – but it totally worked. I loved it.
