I stopped by to buy one (cendol ice cream)…to try. Yes, it was nice but I would say both are nice but this one is a little cheaper – I think that was only RM2.50 a cone.
I’m sure everyone would be able to tell why I was not in the least impressed when I opened the paper cup/bowl (nasi lemak mcd). That fried egg was an absolute disaster…but thankfully, everything underneath…looked pretty good.
I ordered the one in a claypot with the milky soup with hung ngang, the big bihun (RM8.50)…Both our orders sure did not look anywhere near as perfect as the one in the picture that we saw in the magazine.I did try the milky one initially and I felt it was way too milky…like drinking milk and in dire need of some more ingredients to make it a lot more tastier and my girl liked it that way but yes, the fish on the whole was very nice – this giant garoupa or kerapu in Malay or as it is known by its local name, ikan kertang, anytime better than dory, so I gave most of what there was in my bowl of tom yam bihun to her to enjoy.
It was rather obvious that they were not very generous with the sambal unlike what we see in the photo and anyway, it was not very nice so it was no big deal that they gave just a spoonful of it. I loved the super spicy one at McD – this one sure paled in comparison.
I decided to try their zinger cheezilla combo (RM20.50, plus a drink)…which, unfortunately, did not sweep me off my feet. The zinger was fine, hot and spicy and was to my liking. Inside, there was a fried chicken patty with melted mozzarella cheese but I failed to make out the taste of either , neither the patty nor the cheese plus it was rather soggy so I was quite put off by it in the end.
I asked my friend who runs the place and he told me that I could ask for the body and that was exactly what I did that day so this was what I got (RM12.60)…and yes, that certainly was a delightful lunch which is saying quite a lot actually, considering that I am not so much into franchise places.
I decided to go for their sambal eco fish (RM14.90)…one of my favourites here and I had not had that for quite sometime now. Just like the Assam Fish, they use the tilapia from Batang Ai, so fresh that at times, they are even delivered alive! The sambal was at best, o.k. and as expected for a place like this, it was not spicy and I wished they had some cut fresh chilies in the soy sauce – they had that in the photograph in the above display on the wall. Thankfully, the fish was great and I liked the pickled cucumber too so I would say that I did quite enjoy the meal.
Of course we enjoyed our fish burgers…as always
The former (chicken with mala sauce) seemed to be coated with honey so it was slightly sweet and there was just a hint of spiciness whereas the latter was hot, spicy but we were perfectly all right with it.
That was on a Friday so they got me the one without meat, just mushroom and egg (RM8.90)…but they told me that you could choose to add this and that to your sandwich like cheese, for instance. I would not say it got me all excited as I thought it wasn’t anything that would get me running back for more – perhaps the ones with chicken (RM10.90) would be a lot more to my liking since I am more of a meat person but at those prices, I think I would just give it a miss.
My girl got the lamb supreme (RM17.50)…for me. Yes, it was very nice, the patty, that is…but I am not all that fond of the bun they used – I do not know which bakery they got them from or whether they came from the franchise owner but it would get sort of mushy or something like that upon eating and I am never fond of bread like that.
