Here's the location.
The Kolo Mee is good.
I love the noodle used for this kolo mee.
For a no-frills Thai Mookata experience, look no further than this curious space at Automall, Karpal Singh Drive. Affordably priced at Rm 19.90 for a basic set (serves 2), budget watchers can now enjoy delicious Thai Steamboat at unbeatable price, well-complemented with sea breeze. The simple set includes some basic meat balls, greens and meat but those with a deeper pocket can always top up extra few dollars for the additional spread. Bangkok Garden BBQ is not air-conditioned and instead, it relies on the sea breeze so the best time to visit would probably in the evening. The serving portion is not that great but it would be perfectly fine to be served as supper in lieu of a proper meal. Bangkok Garden BBQ can be found right next to Sae Ma Eul Korean BBQ Restaurant.
All other Hotpot ingredients were fresh; note-worthy ones include the Taichi Duo-Shrimp Paste and Fresh Fish Slices. The Taichi Duo Shrimp Paste has two flavors- original and spicy. Both were good and there were bits of the bouncy Shrimps in the paste.
说到火锅他们目前提供 红锅 和白锅红锅既是麻辣药材锅而白锅则是清汤滋补锅
Consider yourself incredibly lucky if you are a fan of Sze Chuan food, more options for you right now with the opening of Hero Pot at Karpal Singh Drive. Belongs to the "Mix", a convenient store that sells fancy imported goods from China, Japan, Korea etc, Hero Pot offers Sze Chuan-influenced dishes and of course... Sze Chuan "Mala" Hot Pot. But everything is designed to be ostentatious here, when you are about to enter the premise, you will be greeted by servers wearing traditional Chinese outfit. They will bring you to your table and before you are seated, they will shout "heroes are coming"... an awkward start to a meal. The menu is Hot Pot-centric, with a few classic Chinese snacks. Service is attentive but do not expect things to be cheap here, expect to fork out at least Rm 50 per pax for a decent meal here. Not particularly impressive as far as taste is concerned... if you must know.
The pleasant aroma of the hot pot, along with the clever garnishing of sesame and peanuts make it addictive further. Besides, addition of egg also increased the aroma. Somehow, the flavour offer a glimpse of Szechuan taste but has been localized to Malaysians' general taste buds.
Viet Food Cuisine Restaurant is a Vietnamese restaurant at Taman Kheng Tian, Jelutong.
The newly opened Viet Food Vietnamese restaurant is certainly not short of Vietnamese competition in Jelutong area but in terms of variety and execution, it stands on its own. Housed in one of the shop houses in Taman Kheng Tian (behind Old Town Perak Road), Viet Food is not an easy spot that catches the eye. The interior is cramped and filled with Vietnamese staff that struggles to speak local dialects, not even basic English; but the place has a good showing of Vietnamese locals. We were not surprised. The menu is large enough that it took us a while to browse through; the quintessential Vietnamese eats are there as well as scatters of the unexpected (such as Balut, Banh Mi, Fish Cakes and authentic Vietnamese sweet treats). Bounteous offering, budget-friendly, authentic and top-notch food; one of the best places for Vietnamese delicacies in Penang.
♥Verdict: The price definitely wasn’t cheap but rationalized with a better quality ingredients (grouper fish). Portion wise, the set and add-on ingredients that we had is suitable for 3-4 persons, for a fulfilling meal. The flavour of the fish head soup was spot on, I loved the melt-in-your-mouth yam sticks that well absorbed the flavour of the broth. Any yam fans here? 🙋
Moonlight box (RM 15) are highly recommended. We particularly enjoyed their moonlight box, as it comes with nicely minced meat with a hint of spice, then topped with egg to smoothen the texture
