Senthai & Mookata restaurant, tucked facing a car park lot in Menjalara, Kepong is an authentic Thai restaurant with chefs from Thailand. Therefore I find the taste of certain dishes foreign and unique to my taste bud. Well, what to do, this is a jakun who seldom eat Thai food ^-^. So, I did a search in google for the meaning of SenThai and Mookata. "In Thailand the BBQ is called a “Mookata”, which translates directly to “Pork Pan” source :My Thailand Holiday. Loosely translated, it is noodles and BBQ Thai style. Hmm... let's see.
Even for steamboat, they use the traditional steamboat pot that uses charcoal as the burning medium. Since charcoal is used, there is no way to control the fire. So, you got to be extra careful. As for ingredients, you could either order the fixed set or a la carte or both. We had their Seafood Set for 2 pax @ RM58.00.
Impressed with the food at Senthai & Mookata, we returned shortly the next day to try their Thai barbecue and steamboat. But let me preface by saying that both their mookata and steamboat are excellent (as we hoped) and the ingredients served were high quality and fresh. So even though their price is slightly higher than the alternatives, you get what you pay for.
Verdict: The price was on the higher side for ala carte order and the portion wasn’t really compatible to the price charged. The set ingredients might priced cheaper that some of the hotpot restaurants at the same territory but again, the portion here was markedly smaller. The main disappointment that evening unquestionably was the pork bone soup that didn’t meet my standard for a good hot pot soup base.
Ingredient here is nicely done up and I am totally impress with their service. Very attentive crew! Will certainly come back again as the pricing is consider very reasonable. Food Rating 7.5/10, pretty good Taiwanese Steamboat.-Stamped-
Overall, I was impressed with the decor of this restaurant. As for the food, they need to do something immediately about it. There’s just too much processed food!
Taifeng offers a few unique soup bases that cannot be found at other local steamboat restaurants. One of them is their signature Sour Vege with Pork Soup @ RM26.50. Yep you read that right, soups are not provided FOC here. With that said, we didn’t mind paying for it because the soup was appetizing and tangy with no hint of MSG. It also comes with plenty of vegetables and pork slices so the price is pretty justified.
♥Verdict: Comfortable environment and friendly service, customer service certainly plays an important role when comes to the overall dining experience (eg: Haidilao). Price could be slightly steep especially when their competitors in the same vicinity offer a more wallet friendly hotpot/steamboat meal, but Red Inn commensurate with the quality of food and service. Not really a place I can afford to visit regularly but it’s definitely worth visit again, perhaps for some special occasions.
Verdict: No hesitation in recommending this place. If you like steamboat and Happy Family Steamboat definitely well worth checking out!
And we are recommended to get the set at RM67 which comes with the steamboat set for 3 pax, a plate of pork slices and golden needle mushroom. Then you get to choose a free dish between fish meat mihun or kam heong lala.
