Gohaniku - i-Avenue Restaurant

1-1-8, Ideal Avenue Medan Kampung Relau 1 11900 Bayan Lepas Penang

Nothing beats a hearty and warm meal of rice and dishes especially when done right, right? So, why Gohaniku? Gohaniku literally means rice (gohan) and meat (niku) in Japanese. A generic “mixed rice” stall is somewhat economical but lacks flavour while ordering rice and dishes from a typical restaurant might be costly and not practical especially when dining alone. Gohaniku stands in between by serving gourmet-level rice bowls that don’t cost much. After all, rice is a staple to majority of us and everyone deserves a daily good meal of rice. Here at Gohaniku, we are all about meat, rice and everything nice.

On the other hand, Salted Egg Crispy Pork (RM 10.90), which you can opt for chicken slices as well (higher price) had the rice bowls topped with crispy pork glazed with salted egg sauce. A more savoury option, and more sinful as well, it fits those who has a carnivorous diet.

We had both the signature Gohaniku Bowl and Salted Egg Bowl; the former one comes with crispy Pork Belly, Japanese-styled Stir Fried Pork, Mushrooms, Edamame and a half-cooked Egg, while the Salted Egg Bowl has crispy Fried Chicken dressed in Salted Egg sauce and blanketed with a sheet of Scrambled Egg. Gohaniku introduced a Malaysian touch to it by adding Sambal to it (almost like our Sambal Haebee). Gohaniku Bowl was alright, the seasoning was similar to those Japanese-styled Stir Fried meat dishes but the Salted Egg Bowl outshined it, the sauce was nicely executed. The beautiful part was the introduction of Kaffir Lime Leaves. Also note-worthy is that Gohaniku uses Japanese Rice in lieu of the conventional local White Rice.
