Kakigori - Taman Paramount Restaurant

25, Jalan 20/13, Taman Paramount, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia

We hand craft kakigōri, Japanese shaved ice flavoured with fresh fruits and premium ingredients to bring a breeze of cool air to Malaysia (whilst making it taste nice too). Kakigōri’s fuwa-fuwa(ふわふわ) soft fluffy shaved ice is similar to newly fallen snow. It is only paired with the best of what’s in season. We never add anything weird like artificial colouring or flavouring, and they’re never, ever made from concentrate. Welcome to our bizarre, delicious, frozen paradise.

If you are in the mood for something light but besides the shaved ice, then do consider the Warabimochi. It comes in 14 cubes – 7 normal flavored and 7 matcha flavored, with a side of sugar syrup. If you are a Matcha fan and intent to truly enjoy its distinct flavor, then perhaps skip the syrup or drizzle just a lil bit. I am not really a matcha fan and so I kindda drowned the whole thing with the syrup which worked well because the syrup did tone down the Matcha flavor quite a bit which bode well with me. Once the Macha powder is drowned, I had no issue at all ‘hantaming’ it. This dish was awesome, chewy and tasty. Oooo, I even had a couple of cubes with the shaved it – the difference in texture and taste was fantastic.

First, we had the Shitake Nanban (RM12.90). The Nanban sauce is a vinegar sauce, which gives a bit of a tart flavour, and is served paired with their very own home made tar tar sauce. The batter was deep fried perfectly, and when cut open, the mushroom itself is juicy enough that it's not too dry. Definitely one of my favorite dish in Momochan.

Whether it is a wholesome flamboyant rice roll or a steaming bowl of rib-sticking ramen, Bocosan Izakaya got it covered. Speaking of the rib-sticking ramen: Bone in Short Rib Ramen (RM 75) ‘s ultra-rich signature soup, made with long hours or simmering and given extra complexity via that huge short rib that’s cooked so perfectly. Plus immaculate sushi rolls filled with likes of seafood and rolled with avocado before topping generously with roe, say hello to lobster of Bocosan Maki (RM 38) and hello to a perfect night to come and vow to return for the umami-packed ramen bowl.

Likes: Pretty plating - each set comes with appetisers and soup. Prettier presentation will always increase one's appetite. Prices are pretty reasonable too... Generally a great place to hang out for lunch and to those who loves to take photos, the lighting for this place is fantastic. Dislikes: Staffs needs to be more attentive - not only they do mistakes, they are very slow too. Not sure if they don't understand customers or something just wasn't quite right that day. Also, their private room requires a minimum spend which I thought was ridiculous. That was the only place which could fit a party of 10. Also, the amount told on the phone was different from the amount that they mentioned on the day where we went. It's a nice place to dine, just that they need to be a bit more consistent and improve on their service. Train your staffs, do what it takes to make it a better experience for customers.

There are several lunch set options, but the star of the show is the Bari-Uma: Ramen in pork flavoured shoyu soup with thick-cut flamed chashu. The set (RM29.90) comes with edamame, two pieces of pan-fried chicken gyoza and green tea. The soup is made from herbs, pork bones, chicken feet, high quality soy sauce and other ingredients, boiled for over 10 hours to extract maximum flavour. The result is a super rich, creamy and thick broth, which diners will slurp to the last drop. The ramen is fresh and springy as well, with just the right amount of al dente bite, and the thick cut chasu had a smokey, slightly charred taste, with a good balance between the lean and fat.

For the past couple of days, I have been having cravings for Don (short for donburi - a Japanese rice bowl dish). Hence I decided to drop by Five-HT, a Japanese Fusion restaurant, for dinner. One of the reasons why I enjoy fusion food so much is because the amalgamation of flavors and textures, never ceased to surprise me. Marrying conventional ingredients the unconventional way - sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't, and at most instances, I'd never know what to expect.
