My kids loved the Vortex Tunnel and kept going in and out for more than 10 times, whereas their mother backed off after 3 steps – the tunnel made my head spin and I lost my balance! But I loved the kaleidoscope: the photo will make an excellent social media profile picture!

To make it more interactive, there are fun quizzes that you can take. Try your hand at trading stocks, or managing the economy using interest rates. (Failed at both and caused the economies to crash. Welp.) There is also a section where you can spin blocks and compare how inflation has caused prices of goods to increase over the years.

Muzium Ethnologi Dunia Melayu (Musuem of Malay World Ethnology) is dedicated to Malay culture and history, where visitors can learn about traditional games, clothing, accessories, arts and crafts and weaponry, among others. While not very large, visitors will find a good collection of exhibits on display, with detailed descriptions.

Most of the items on display at the Museum are masks and carvings from the Mah Meri and Jah Hut tribes. The Mah Meri of Selangor are among the most well known Orang Asli tribes. They live close to the coast and make a living as fishermen, although in recent years, tourism has also become an important source of livelihood. They are extremely skilled at woodcarving, hence the masks which are used in rituals and ancestor worship.

There are also woven pieces, agricultural tools, clothes made from bark, weapons, and musical instruments. The museum is all too small, as it is interesting but won’t take much longer than 45 minutes to look round. I definitely recommend considering it as part of an extension to the National Museum rather than making a separate visit. Think of it as 3 museums for RM10 when added to the Ethnology of the Malay World Museum, and in that spirit it’s worth the entry fee and the journey.

Like nearly all the museums on site, you would feel a little bit aggrieved if you had travelled a long way just for this one, but as a package it is definitely worthwhile.

In 1957 which is the independence year of Malaysia, this was the palace for our Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Monarch) and Permaisuri Agong (Queen) until 2011 where they have moved to a new palace which is located in Jalan Duta. With 54 years of history and it has becomes a Muzium Diraja in 2013. Muzium Diraja is a museum where you will see how the castle exactly looks like in Malaysia.
