What I do not like, and find it strange in an unpleasant way, is the minced mantis prawns. As I've mentioned, in the beginning I didn't even know it is mantis prawns. I thought it was minced meat, which also would make it a first ever for Hokkien Mee. No, it's mantis prawns. But the mantis prawns have an odd taste that is disagreeable to me. It doesn't taste fresh. Yes, that's the thing. It tastes like something that has gone bad. My wife described it as "minced meat marinated in tau joo". Maybe it is a delicacy and a speciality of this stall, but the taste puts me off.

As a result of hours of boiling to extract the essence of the crustacean, the Mantis Prawn Hokkien Mee (Rm 6 for Small) comes in a broth with orange hue; each spoonful of this saturated broth was a burst of seafood sweetness. Every bit of it was a joy to savor. Additionally, copious amount of Mantis Prawns was added to the noodles, the crumbly yet with a slight resilient Mantis Prawns definitely amps up the flavor of dish by adding a more layered dimension. However, the place will be throng with patrons during weekends, do head to the place earlier to avoid disappointment.

Small bowl at RM 3.80 is really a good bargain. Filled with classic ingredients such as chicken feet, pig skin, pig intestine, herbal egg, special home blend garlic vinegar sauce and also chili paste. Love the starchy soup base with a bit of saltiness and sweetness to my liking as the amount of vinegar garlic is just nice and could be better if slightly stronger.

The gravy is definitely the one that makes Kim Leng loh mee unique. The thick gravy is flavourful and gives a bit hint of sweetness. It is very inviting. Next, KayaButter love its braised eggs, very well marinated. You can add extra ingredients as you like such as the chicken legs, braised eggs, meats and internal organs. Internal organs are not KayaButter’s favourite, so we ask them to exclude that in our loh mee. Oh ya, the loh mee also comes with pork’s skin.

Ah Gu Pan Mee is not the conventional Pan Mee place that serves Pan Mee in the neighborhood; it churns out atypical but lip-smacking flavors. If you think Pan Mee can only be served with clear Anchovy broth or dressed in dark Soy sauce, think again. Ah Gu, the Pan Mee specialist is creative at churning out Pan Mee... differently, some of the notable choices include Clams Pan Mee, Scallion Pan Mee and the never-out-of-fashion Pork Lard Pan Mee. Opened in less than a month, Ah Gu has garnered an appreciate following.

Recently Yan Yam Cafe 炎茶餐室 – 炒叻沙/东炎面 added a touch of coffee shop dining to the scene with a handful of hawker stalls. One of the stalls offers an interesting dish of Fried Laksa. This fried base noodle is slightly spicy, sweet and sour with a distinct aromatic and pungent flavour, just like the popular Penang Assam Laksa soup noodle.

百年路咖哩面的汤底很鲜甜,有豆腐卜(不懂为何,风暴兵太太觉得这里的豆腐卜比较爽口)、其他的佐料还有QQ的虾、蚶、鱿鱼和豆芽。

It lives up to its name of being white curry - a thin, sweet and milky broth made with meat stock with just a hint of curry flavor. It's very different from KL's curry laksa which is heavy on curry flavor and gives of a yellow hue.

Sang Nyuk Mee (Rm 9) Diners have the option to pick either Yellow Noodles, Vermicelli Noodles or Koay Teow; the noodles are then dressed in Dark Soy Sauce and Pork Lard. It can be greasy but for those who appreciate the fragrance of the Pork Lard, you may find it palate-pleasing. The Pork broth on the other hand, was light on the palate but packed with deep meaty element. Also note-worthy was the Pork slices... extremely tender and almost melted in the mouth without chewing. Ask to exclude the innards if you are not a fan of those.
