I suspect Cheek By Jowl is one of those restaurants that diners can get divided on. That you would either get excited about for its odd, somewhat creative pairing; or feel some dishes might need more fine-tuning in terms of balance.

About 2/3 of the seating area is al-fresco. There are some seats indoors but I wouldn’t recommend sitting there because the space is rather narrow, it’s directly next to the ordering queue and the cooking smell is stronger there.

We tried one of their rum infusions. This was known as Sing, something with pineapple, red chilli and vanilla. The chilli existed as an aromatic with none of the heat. I suppose it would have been much much more interesting if there was something prickly in it.

There were other intriguing dishes on the menu which I will try on my next visit like the bakes and muffins! Nevertheless, still an ideal brunch and coffee destination for me in the vicinity of Tanjong Pagar. Coffees were good, the spacious layout on the second floor was even better. With free wifi, nothing beats a therapeutic quiet afternoon with coffee and work.

It’s a pretty darn good scone that’s both sweet and savoury. There are plenty of bak kwa bits in the scone that give a nice textural bite. The scone has a lovely crispy crust on the outside and is moist yet light and fluffy on the inside. Simply delicious.
